Meet Anthony Dunn of KooTonyD in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Dunn.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a follower of the craft beer scene. My main focus is the DFW area. I must thank cider beers for helping me get into craft beer. I first had a Woodchuck cider back in 2010, and it blew my mind. It wasn’t until four years later I kept seeing Deep Ellum beer everywhere. I was at a Tom Thumb, and they let you make your own six-pack. I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy them, so I just bought 1. That 1 was the Deep Ellum Blonde. The taste was different from the normal domestic and import beers I drink. The first one wasn’t bad, but I left them alone. A few months later, I was going to a Texas Rangers game, and my buddy had some Deep Ellum Blondes in his cooler. It was hot outside, so I didn’t care what I was drinking, as long as it was cold. That was the one that got me to hook and changed my life! I told myself to go check out their beer brewery as soon as I could. In the meantime, I went back to Tom Thumb and bought a pick and choose six-pack. I have been exploring ever since.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My Instagram page could fool people. Yes, I enjoy craft beer, but I don’t drink beer all the time. Next, the struggle was trying to figure out how to get more likes. I didn’t know much about how to engage with followers and others on Instagram. My goal was to be totally different from my Facebook and Twitter, where I follow sports and friends from school. My wife helped me as far as coming up with different ways to take pictures of my beers, but I was still having trouble getting the likes I wanted. I finally reached out to one of my few followers at the time on Instagram and asked her how to get more followers and more likes. That’s when she told me the most amazing thing I ever heard. “Hashtags!” The power of hashtags are real! After that, my page took off! I also made it a point to make sure I show love to other pages too engage with them.

Please tell us about KooTonyD.
community here in DFW is full of amazing people that I have grown to appreciate. Of course, we all come from different walks of life, and I think that is great. If I wasn’t in this community, I would have never met these amazing people. We all have respect for one another and a strong love for craft beer! I’ve been a part of this community for a few years now, and I have learned so much about different organizations with great causes that help many people. I feel my place in the craft beer community is being one of the many advocates that helps showcase on my Instagram page; these great causes when I am able too.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I was able to start over, I would have my hashtags from the start. I’m not in a race for followers or likes though. I feel like I came on at a great time because the craft beer scene in DFW has grown a lot!
