Today we’d like to introduce you to Gary Brown Jr.
Gary, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I remember always receiving compliments on my appearance, and people would joke you should be a model. I didn’t have the confidence or commonsense to believe that I was capable of that, but one day I was walking through the galleria mall here in Dallas, and someone from Abercrombie and Fitch stop me in 2013. From there I gradually focused on things like fitness and becoming more photogenic. I am firm believer in learning all aspects of your craft.
I dabbled in graphic design, and photography while researching the industry by searching the web and networking. While in high school and college I continued to fine-tune aspects of entrepreneurship and entertainment.
In 2018, I was fortunate to cross paths with my manager Willie Johnson of J3 productions. He helped me become more polished and prepared. I entered into a talent expo that is held here in Dallas. After a strong performance, I received several callbacks, an annual scholarship to attend a performing arts school in New York, and became signed to a management and agency. I submitted an audition for Landrum Arts of Louisiana. Under Landrum, I have the wonderful opportunity to work as a professional actor & commercial model.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a model and actor definitely comes with a few challenges like any other profession. I had to developing patience, consistency and resilience to push pass every ”no”. Also, learning to stay ready instead of having to get ready. You never know when your next audition will manifest. Most of what I had to overcome were all things within my realm of control. Loving what I do makes it easy and having faith that God will grant the peace and prosperity reinforces my vision!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Gary Brown Jr – what should we know?
I am currently a part of the Landrum Arts family as a professional actor and model. I am blessed to be very well-rounded when it comes to skills. I am capable of all levels of acting & modeling such as commercial, print, speaking roles, and voice over. As a young black male, I am most proud of having an amazing agency and the opportunity to be as successful as I want to be. I am very grateful to have not only success but my testimony to build my strength to endure with hopes for a great future.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
You need a developed sense of gratitude, humility and faith as a foundation. Also, staying humble but not lacking the confidence to shine is key to unlocking a successful career. I’ve learned not to keep up with the Joneses and go at my own pace to enjoy the journey! Be positive…be careful what you say because your words have power. Let the contents of your heart and mind be conducive to the type of success you want to have. Finally, always show love and support when you can.
My biggest takeaway by far in life would be, all things are possible when I have the faith to not be discouraged by the bad days and to be grateful no matter how dark circumstances may seem.
So, Faith + Hard Work = Blessings.
