Meet Keshia Chism of Keeping Style Affordable in Rowlett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keshia Chism.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
From the time I was a teenager, I’ve always been a lover of all things style and fashion. It took me a while to realize I had been gifted with an artistic eye. I just knew that I liked creating new looks and my thinking was outside of the box. One day, I stumbled across a bloggers’ page on FB; mind you, I had no idea what a blogger even was. I noticed how her page was filled with pictures of her wearing different stylish outfits, and I thought to myself “maybe I should do that.” I was already constantly posting pictures of myself in different outfits socializing and being out and about around town on my FB page, so starting a blog didn’t seem like such a big difference. Did I decide to create a public FB? page and start from there. Shortly after this, I became a personal stylist and did this off and on over the next six years. Through this journey, I discovered I love educating and inspiring others about fashion. I am passionate about showing women how to take their style to the next level and how to maximize their wardrobe. While blogging, I had the opportunity to work and collaborate with many small boutiques and some major brands. Once again, a thought came to me, “If I can help other businesses’ sell out their merchandise, I can be doing it for myself… AND I would be able to choose the looks based on my personal style. That’s how the KSA Boutique was born. In July of 2016, I launched KSA Online Boutique and it took off from there.

Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth ride?!?!? LOL! No, not at all. This boutique life, for sure has its ups and downs. It’s literally like you’re on a roller coaster ride. One-month sales are booming, and the next month, I’m wondering what in the world did I get myself into. My biggest struggle was running the boutique full-time. A little over a year ago, I decided to quit my full-time job and my only source of income would profit from the boutique. For the first few months, it was lovely, but then real challenges started and I quickly learned being an entrepreneur isn’t as easy as it looks on Instagram and Facebook. It’s definitely glamorized so I advise everyone to please not get caught up in the social media hype! Being an entrepreneur is a non-stop grind and the only one you can depend on to get your money is you. There’s no such thing as an off day and you must be prepared for it. I recently decided to go back to my “9-5” and now, I consider myself a “working entrepreneur.”

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Keeping Style Affordable – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Keeping Style Affordable means just what it says. My boutique is all about affordable fashion for the woman that likes to look like a million bucks but doesn’t want to break the bank to do so. It specializes in unique stand out pieces that can easily transition throughout your life. Most pieces can be worn for a night out on the town, easily transition to brunch with your girls, or maybe even Sunday service. It all depends on your styling preferences. That’s where blogging comes in. I blog about the clothing and show how to create multiple looks with one piece. This is what sets me apart from other boutiques, as well as being known for having great items. My boutique carries shirts and dresses that will turn heads when you enter the room… or as I like to call them…” conversation pieces.” KSA Boutique is for women who are not afraid to stand out and be different.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
There are so many things I love about Dallas. Let’s start with all of the great shopping Dallas has to offer. Being a lover of style and fashion, I can for sure appreciate it. I also love the endless options for good eating. Finding a place to eat is not something you will ever hear people around here complain about. Last, but not least, is Dallas’ southern charm. The people are so relaxed and have the biggest hearts. What I dislike about Dallas is the HEAT!
