Meet Rachel Davidson of Beauty By BellaRae in Grapevine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Davidson.

Rachel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
For as long as I can remember I have been interested in the beauty industry. When I started high school, dance became my life and with that came my passion for makeup. I remember looking at different beauty schools during my senior year of high school, but I had to go to college because it was “the right thing” to do. I enrolled at Indiana State University, joined the dance team and studied Elementary/Special Education with a minor in dance. During my junior year, I began to pray over the question “Is this the career I want for the rest of my life?” That summer I was training to become a co-captain for the dance team and the answer hit me, I mean literally!

I ended up in a bad car accident where I was T-boned by another vehicle. All I can remember is waking up to the sound of the firemen cutting me out of the car.  When I arrived at the hospital my big sister was right there by my side. She let me know everything would be ok as I was crying in pain. The fear set in when I couldn’t feel the lower half of my body and there was too much swelling for the doctors to know if I would be paralyzed or not.  God always has the final say and with his grace I had only broken my pelvis in three places along with all the other cuts, scrapes and bruises. The doctors had to place a metal plate in my hip, a fixture to hold my pelvis in place and plenty of stitches, talk about pain! It took me six months of rehab to learn to walk again, at the time I didn’t understand why this was happening to me. I thank God for the family and friends I have that supported me through that time because, without them, I wouldn’t have had the strength to make it. During the time I spent in rehab I began to see how precious life is and that I only wanted to spend my time doing what makes me happy. I quickly made the decision to become an esthetician. I attended Tricoci University and completed the required program hours in six months while working two jobs!

Upon my completion, I was hired on at a waxing franchise to start my career. Waxing became second nature so I can probably do it with my eyes closed (although I won’t). Being a speed wax specialist opened my eyes to how many women are uncomfortable with their bodies and helping them feel comfortable became my goal! It became my mission to build those relationships with my clients and give them a fast and efficient service. In my three years there I was moved up in my level of speed and became a trainer for all new hires. As much as I loved my job and clients, life presented me with an opportunity to leave Indiana and come to Texas! Leaving my family and friends was the hardest decision to make but I knew I had their support. I transferred to the franchise location here and jumped right back into waxing and training. After being a wax specialist for five years, I needed a new challenge and went through training to become a lash artist at another franchise.

Doing lash extensions fueled my purpose and my passion for making women feel beautiful. Between being a wax specialist and lash artist at two different places and working seven days a week I knew it was time for a change. After many prayers and planning, I decided to take the leap of faith and go out on my own! September 2018, I opened Beauty By BellaRae where I am now able to do what I love in one building and provide an intimate setting for my clients.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t all been smooth but I’ve learned that you have to go through a test to give a testimony! I lost my granny last month and it’s hard to work through the pain but I know she is proud of me. There will be times where you want to give up but you just have to put one foot in front of the other and keep going. I’m thankful for every struggle and the lessons that come with them. I can honestly say that my clients are more like friends and family so even if I’m having a hard day they make it better.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Beauty By BellaRae – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I opened Beauty By BellaRae to build confidence and bring out inner beauty. My focus is speed waxing for men and women, along with lash extensions. For waxing, I use only hard wax which is perfect for people with sensitive skin. I tried several waxes before finding the perfect one for all skin types with the least amount of discomfort. Although I am a speed wax specialist all of my clients receive a clean and efficient result. When it comes to lash extensions I focus on classic 1:1 and hybrid sets depending on the client’s specific look they’re going for along with the health of their natural lash. People always ask if it’s damaging to your natural lashes and the honest answer is it depends on who you’re going to. I continuously read up on new techniques to improve my skills and find the best quality lash supplies. My goal is to provide proper technique and to teach at-home care to maintain your natural lash health.

In my opinion, I am most known for Brazilian waxes because of my speed and my focus on making sure no hair is left behind! My proudest moment thus far would have to be all the client referrals. Word of mouth is a big part of gaining new clients to help your business grow. I think what sets me apart from others is my passion and energy. I want every person to leave feeling like a new and improved version of themselves.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
Moving to Dallas presented more opportunities to network and explore. Whether you like being outdoors, movies, eating, etc. There are always new places to try and new people to meet. The only downside to that is more people means more traffic so plan drive times accordingly.

  • Classic Full Set $130 2 weeks Refill $50
