Today we’d like to introduce you to Sirjoe Mays.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It really all started as a small trip to California. I wanted to vlog my trip since it was my first time there. While I was out there, I realize I got some dope footage. When I got back home, I hit a major roadblock simply cause I didn’t know how to edit so I just ended up sitting on that footage. I eventually went to Best Buy and got Premier Elements and started trying to teach myself how to edit. One day, I and my guy Burger was chilling and he had a camera. So, I was like let’s go to Deep Ellum and shoot something. We have seen a dope graffiti wall and we decided to shoot a video to one of his songs. I got home and started editing immediately but ended up not liking how it turned out. After not being successful on my own, I enrolled in Eastfield Digital Media Program. While I was there, I didn’t learn a thing but I met Victor FilmsbyKV Gonzales. I showed him the video Burger and I did and he told me straight up it was TRASH! I then deleted the video and started over from scratch with his help. Later on, I ended up shooting a quick video with GUNNA Gang and Nino Racks. I showed him and he basically told me that’s how it’s supposed to look and the rest been growth and history from there.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have definitely come across some struggles nothing too big. The biggest roadblock has been myself on really learning how to be creative. I have learned to push myself to be as creative as possible. I’m still learning to this day on ways I can be more creative and different.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about BlackMrktFilms – what should we know?
BlackMrktfilms is a production company. As of now, I specialize in music videos and I am currently working on a few scripts for short films. I eventually have plans on expanding the business and bring on board a team to create and capture content that people love. I create memories I’m known for being goofy and just overall creating dope content. I’m mainly just proud of how far I’ve got in this business being able to know some of the big-name directors and artist around Dallas is just an overall great feeling in its self. I’m willing to go above and beyond to capture the shots that are needed or just to get my clients the visual they’re looking for. Anything to get the shot as my boy Victor (filmsbykv) would say.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I’m a people person, I love meeting new people and networking. As I said before, I’m very goofy but once I hit record, it’s serious, from there, I mean business. I’m always looking to learn new things if you’re not learning, you’re not growing, everyone needs growth.
