Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Peace.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Courtney. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was wrongfully incarcerated at the age of 18. 12 years later, I was released possessing a gift of painting that a developed, where I use my hands alone to create. In the process of beginning my art career, I began a trucking company and this is how I make a living while following my dream, praying for the day it pays off😊.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely been a challenge. Adjusting from been confined for so long, to trying to find my way in society. And I appreciate every struggle, and every moment good and bad thus far, as this has given me a lot of growing knowledge, and many meaningful lessons.
Please tell us more about your artwork, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Well, as an artist, my style is definitely unique. I’m self-taught and the way in which I paint I don’t believe can be mimicked. As far as my trucking company? It’s more difficult some days than others, but we do a good job. I have a good team of drivers and good relationships with brokers, which helps a lot.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Buying my first car and seeing the smile on my grandfather’s face. He was so proud of me. A brand new Mazda. I had worked all summer long and been saving every check. The reward of him seeing me as a young responsible man is a feeling I’ll never forget.
