Meet Raquel Ellis of Healing Heartz in South Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raquel Ellis.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started writing in 2017. It was right after I had what I felt like was the WORST breakup ever! So, instead of being sad and sitting around crying all the time, I made a choice to begin to heal. So, I started writing. After about a week or so, I went back just to reread some of my feelings, and after I did that, it felt like growth. It then dawned on me about how many women and men suffer in silence with heartbreaks and challenges, and become depressed. I wanted to share with people that they were not alone. Just because no one will publicly share their weaknesses and fears, that we all face them in one way or another. So for me, Healing Heartz was about transparency. To Reveal (what’s hurting) Refresh (take the time to rebuild) and Renew (don’t stay down, come back STRONGER).

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This has definitely not been easy. In being transparent about your personal fears, heartbreaks, and shortcomings, you leave room for people to feel they have the right to judge you. And all comments are not nice. So, when I write, I make sure I do it UNAPOLEGETICLY and PURELY. That way when I share my feelings with the world, there is a sense of security that allows me not to be beaten down by others opinions.

Please tell us about Healing Heartz.
Healing Heartz! I wouldn’t classify it as a business or a company. I would more like it to be classified as a COMMUNITY. A place that you can come to for a laugh. Come to for encouragement, or just a good read. The thing that makes me the proudest about my community is that its a daily reminder for me that I’M NOT ALONE!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite thing about my childhood would have to be my weekends with my aunt uncles and cousins. Every Friday, my mom would drive us to Plesant Grove off Peavy Rd, and we would just have the best time. It was always a party! I can remember one weekend, in particular, that my cousins and I wanted to go to the movies. And the only way we could go we had to come up with a dance routine, lol! There were just no heavy worries at that time.
