Meet Ty Mangum of Couture Connoisseur Boutique in ECommerce

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ty Mangum.

Ty, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I developed a very strong love for fashion. At age 14, I played dress up in my aunt’s fashionable outfits and accessories – dreaming of one-day owning such items myself.

Fast-forward to adulthood, I remained true to my passion in fashion, working eight years in retail with a number of roles. I devoted myself to keeping up with the latest trends. Giving my all to help my clients create the best look for the occasion while staying true to who they are has always been my commitment.

While pursuing my Fashion Marketing Degree attending El Centro College, I built a bond with the utmost caring and dedicated professor on campus – Mrs. Marilyn Sullivan. Mrs. Sullivan greatly encouraged my studies which prompted my decision that it was time to apply what I learned to achieve my lifelong dream of owning a posh boutique

Fostering mentor relationships with two of the most talented and influential individuals on the Dallas fashion scene – Willie Johnson of J3 Productions and Catrina Henderson of THE CREATIVE STYLEHAUS- has taught me so many valuable lessons and also gave me much needed exposure to the inner workings of the Fashion Industry.

In September of 2018, I was able to officially launch the website for Couture Connoisseur Boutique with the support and help from my mother, Rosalyn Toliver, and my family.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, but I believe the path less traveled has always been the road that leads to the most success! Some of the struggles I face are obtaining financial backing for a brick and mortar location – which is my dream! I envision the Couture Connoisseur Boutique location to be a place of not only fashion and style but empowerment as well. I also struggle with juggling everything that is required of me while maintaining a full-time schedule and also being a mother of three. Keeping myself motivated and focusing on the end goal is what keeps me going! I am also one of those people that are excited by new challenges and overcoming obstacles! There is nothing more invigorating than doing what you are most passionate about. Even when it seems as if I am running on “fumes”, my energy never dies when I am working on Couture Connoisseur and the continued building of my brand.

I am still in the building stages, but the fun part of this stage is the excitement and learning experience that comes along with these moments. These are the moments that I will look back on and reflect proudly as Couture Connoisseur Boutique reaches its success. I look forward to molding and shaping my brand into everything I have envisioned it to be and more!

Please tell us about Couture Connoisseur Boutique.
Couture Connoisseur is all about Exclusivity and having your own unique style. We carry limited quantities of select fashions and our clients can take pride in knowing that their selections won’t be sold in mass quantities.

The Couture Connoisseur client is one of individuality and uniqueness and can find their personal style for any occasion with ease at Couture Connoisseur.

We take pride in providing the most stylish and eye-catching product. I am currently responsible for handpicking and selecting each item that we sell. I am especially looking forward to what we have to offer this Fall! Be on the lookout for Fall/Winter 2019 styles! As I learn more each day, I am slowly creating a story that fits my brand. I create the story for my target audience – the woman who is the fashionista of her inner circle, the woman with a unique sense of style and each day is a new adventure and opportunity to show her personality through her style, We cater to the woman who is known to set trends rather than follow them – and is always the first to debut the hottest styles!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I think the only thing that I would say that I might have changed would be the timing. I have had this dream for years and was too afraid to step out of my comfort zone and start my business. Time is one thing we cannot get back so I have vowed to move forward with more confidence – and more “Godfience” (faith and confidence in God) – as I achieve my goals.

I would also have stayed solely in the retail industry from when I entered the workforce, instead of considering positions based solely on pay. There’s the saying “It’s not work if you are doing what you love” and I consider this to be true.
