Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Owusu-Hemeng.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Hello, world! I am also known as “Get-me-live!” A sports enthusiast, BAMA lover, Dallas girl, Dallas World, giving you the low-down dirty truth about today’s most popular sports. I am a Western Kentucky University Masters graduate with a bachelors degree in Sports Broadcasting/Journalism and Sociology. I have completed a number of successful internships with Dallas Mavericks and Texas Rangers for ESPN, Pro Player, Heart of the Game, and Radio One. I have also worked with a number of athletes including Deion Sanders, Kobe Bryant, and others. I am passionate about giving back to my community through volunteer work and servant leadership. Which lead to why I started writing and interviewing athletes and posting a daily blog of what I encounter for the world to read and get to know their favorite athlete on a personal level.
On the other side of things for the last 10 years and counting, I have been volunteering my time at Buckner Orphanage, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and various after school program teaching children how to read. Working with kids at various communities and teaching me how to read has lead me to broaden my horizon and offer everyone a cheaper opportunity in getting their child how to read. I enjoy when children enjoy learning and being enthusiastic about learning. Overall, I have taught over 100 kids how to read in the DFW metroplex and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.

My Mission:
My professional goal is to obtain employment with a mid to major sports news agency or university in sports broadcasting and journalism. My personal mission is to be a living example for young African-American girls to believe that through hard work and determination it is possible for them to tear down stereotypes of today’s society and achieve any goal they set their minds to. I would also like to open an orphanage in the Arlington area to shelter and educate children in need.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
All my life, I have been faced with people who doubted me and thinking I wouldn’t amount to or achieve certain things. I used the doubt as motivation to show the youth it doesn’t matter what people may say about you all that matter is what you think about you and going out and doing the best you can do.

So, to reiterate earlier, I have two businesses.
Learn2ReadDFW is a company strictly for teaching students how to read and to read efficiently.
Www.SportsWithMichelle.com is a personal blog of interviews and behind the scenes of your favorite athletes.
I am most proud of these companies because it’s something I put my heart into and reap the benefits of seeing other people learn and become informed about their everyday favorite athlete.
What sets me apart from everyone else is the amount of passion, dedication, and realness I bring to the table.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is running around the rooftop in Ghana with my grandpa and pretending to jump off and catch myself and just seeing my grandpa trying to keep up with me. RIP to him!
