Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Herod, Senae Dillard, and Causha Ferguson.
So, before we jump into specific questions about your group, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2016, Senae created a group for anime lovers and watchers. After gaining a large following, Mike and Senae decided to take the group to the next level by founding the Blanime Podcast. Once the foundation was laid by releasing the first episode in January, the podcast immediately took off. Several episodes later, Causha was introduced to the show as a guest host. The following week, she was introduced as the third and final member of Blanime.
Six months later, the podcast has gained a social media following of nearly 2,000 across Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram media platforms.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Has the road been smooth? Wow, we believe collectively that this has definitely been a roller coaster mentally, emotionally, and of course financially. There were times were someone (each of us) have dropped the ball in numerous ways, whether it’s forgetting a podcast recording, missing business meetings, and also relaying messages about upcoming events. Despite the “typical” road to success, we seem to find the issue and resolve it immediately amongst the three of us. No matter how hard things get, we always seem to remember that our friendship comes first which makes the journey a lot more fun and easier.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
What we do is we provide a platform based off of three people of color just loving anime. There aren’t many podcasts that cater to anime, let alone people of color talking about anime. We’re known for our reviews on newly released anime, anime of the past, and most of all, us being us. The dynamic we provide in-person definitely speaks volumes when the listeners tune in to each of our episodes.
The thing we are most proud of would be the outpour of support and love from other anime lovers, especially those of color. Although we’re called the Blanime Podcast, we do welcome anime lovers of ALL colors.
What sets us apart from others is simple – We’re us. Nobody tells us what to say or how to say it. We are truly 100% ourselves on and off the podcast. We provide content that’s real, raw, and funny,
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Good luck. Great luck. Amazing luck. The amount of doors that have opened for us, the people we have met, and the networking we have established amongst other businesses and podcasts has been really overwhelming. We’re grateful and thankful for all of the “luck” that has been sent our way. Though we have had a few bad luck here and there, the good always outweighs the bad.
