Meet Dominic Trevino of Mr. Pidge in San Antonio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominic Trevino.

Dominic, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Of course. Thanks for having me.

My band “Mr. Pidge” was created as a response to adversity.

Around 2016, the band I was drumming for at the time had decided to split.
My significant other at the time and I had decided to split up as well (she was the lead singer of this band).

I was failing out of the university and a couple of months after the fact I was checked into a psychiatric unit due to the stress.

This was a considerable low point in my life, but it gave me the opportunity and perspective to look up.

After my release, I found myself co-writing music for a play the theater department at my university was putting on at the time. It was Shakespeare “Twelfth Night”. It was during this time that I befriended one of my long term friends, Josh (He plays keys in the band and helps write the songs).

After this interaction, a person who I consider as my “first college best friend” had just gotten back from studying abroad in Greece. He had developed a “shifted perspective” since we last met and this drove me to ask him if he wanted to start a band.

He promptly said, “sure”.
I replied with “sweet”.

Some time past and I had recruited one of my oldest friends and former band mate, “Noah” to play bass for Mr. Pidge. After that, we cycled through different guitarist and finally landed with the jazz-guitar prodigy “Daniel”. We later brought on Josh for keys, Ivanna for Violin/Vocals, and Ashton for Saxophone.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The journey has been alot of work, but really fun at the same time.

One of my favorite struggles was having to convert a DJ electronic set into something a band could actually perform live.

So, we had been playing for about two months.

At the time we had only played one show and it didn’t go well.

Hey man, you gotta start somewhere.

I don’t remember exactly how or why, but we were asked by a local SATX college radio station (KRTU 91. 7 FM) to perform live on air.

We used to play with tracks for our live shows.
Sometimes it worked.
Sometimes it didn’t.

We had to go completely live for this one and I was freaking out. Due to everyone’s conflicting work schedule, we were left with 3 hours to rehearse before going on air. Surprisingly the pressure worked in our favor and as far as I’m concerned, we nailed it.

After that performance, we ditched the tracks and performed without them.

We really started to focus and cultivate our sound as a band.
We no longer had something to prove to others but had something to prove to ourselves.

It was a good feeling.

Mr. Pidge – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Mr. Pidge is a “Psychedelic Lofi Latin RnB Band”.

At its heart, we want to help people live their lives in a more meaningful way.

Personally, we love 70’s glam aesthetics and tropical funk fashion.

I sing and write a majority of the songs in Mr. Pidge, but everyone in the band brings something to the table because they are all accomplished songwriters/producers and very proficient in their instruments.

Everyone is a crucial character in Mr. Pidge.

Everyone is a crucial character in their own lives and to those around them.

We want people to listen to our music and achieve self actualization.

It’s truly a blessing to work with this cast.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is a state of mind.

Be the person you want to be and you will be happy.

Setting long and short term goals definitely help the process.

If I see growth in what I am doing than I know, I am on the right track.

If there is no growth than I take a step back and see how I can change or improve on what I am doing (Like a SWOT analysis of the mind and self).

I believe your attitude will carry you throughout your life and its good to adopt a life-long learner mentality.
