Meet Destiny Jeffries of It Cakes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Jeffries.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Destiny. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It started in the kitchen! My immediate family is pretty small compared to the average person(s) (grandmother, mother, and three siblings). Being that there is only a few of us here in Dallas, we are extremely close. We spend the majority of our time together cooking/eating and enjoying one another’s presence. Growing up cooking on holidays was a huge thing for my family. My sister and I would always help my mom and grandmother prepare for holiday cooking and picked up our own skills. My mother can cook anything you can think of and I promise you, you can’t find a flaw! Through the years, I picked up the skills of banking. I became responsible for the baked goods (and the greens) for any family gathering, birthday, celebration, etc. Friends and coworkers eventually became aware that I enjoyed the skill of baking. One day, a co-worker asked had I ever explored the options of owning my own business. For a while, I avoided the thought. I didn’t want to turn a therapeutic task into a stressful job. Well, more and more people began to ask me to create more treats or baked goods for their upcoming events. It honestly was like the game of telephone when we were in grade school except with correct information. I would make something for a friend and a friend would tell their friend, and that friend would tell their 3rd cousin’s friend. Friends and family members come to me with crazy Pinterest idea’s and I love it. Giving me the opportunity for skill growth and growing creatively. Without the help from my family and friends, It Cakes could never be. Thank you all for your encouragement, support, and trusting my creative abilities.

Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part, it’s been pretty smooth. No regrets, no struggles, but definitely lessons learned.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the It Cakes story. Tell us more about the business.
It Cakes is a new up and coming baking company here in Dallas, catering to the Metroplex. You need a birthday cake, cupcakes, party treat tables, or cookies we got you! Desserts bring people happiness and it is our desire to be apart of creating that happiness. One of our best sellers is our “It’s Velvet” cupcake. This cupcake is a red velvet cake with a red velvet Oreo at the bottom, topped with buttercream frosting, and more Oreo cookies. All made from scratch, except the Oreo’s we bought those !!! Are you Vegan/Vegetarian? Don’t you worry we have something for you. Our “Vegan Sugar Cookie” cupcake is another popular item. This is an animal product free cupcake that tastes just like a sugar cookie. A lot of people are changing with the time and jumping on to the healthier eating boat or have allergies to certain foods and we want to make sure we keep up. If you have any sensitivity to gluten’s etc. we have options for you as well. I’m most proud of the growth of my company and myself growing with it. I’m completely self-taught and I am still learning. With the grace of God, anything is possible. Don’t limit yourself! You can do anything you put your mind to!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think the industry will remain! People every day are having life-changing events they want to celebrate. Trends continue to change and bakers have kept up this far. There are all sorts of resources and seminars for bakers to take classes to learn more and keep up with new trends.
