Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Bailey.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Marissa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I graduated high school at 17 because I knew I couldn’t afford college so I had to find a good job. I grew tired of working at fast food places and at that time, I was extremely into makeup and had this idea of going into beauty school. I knew that if I could get that trade skill, I would be able to do what I love and make enough money to save for college. I attended the ogle beauty school, passed all my tests and obtained my esthetician’s license. I ended up losing interest in makeup funnily enough and fell in love with skincare. My very first job was at European Wax Center where I learned speed waxing. Eventually, I also learned sugaring which is an organic method of waxing. Now, it’s been almost four years later and I’m still waxing. It became so much more than just a job because I got to network with people, help them with their skin, and even help with some personal problems too. Over the years, I’ve really developed a connection with my clients and realized I didn’t wanna do the in & out process, I wanted them to feel welcomed and comfortable. Waxing can be a very invasive procedure so a lot of people can shy away if they don’t have a good experience. At the beginning of this year, I decided to take the leap and rent my own suite. Now, I am Bailey’s Holistic Wellness.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Oh man, it has definitely been a bumpy ride. As I was going through beauty school, I was also going through an abusive relationship so there were a lot of times, I wanted to give up and just quit. I pushed myself to finish and with the help of some amazing friends I was also able to get out of that relationship. I have also had people try to put me down and take advantage of my work ethic so that’s why I decided to work for myself and hopefully, never look back.
Bailey’s Holistic Wellness – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I offer full body waxing. I specialize in speed waxing and I’m known for giving a pain-free experience. I’m pretty proud of the dedication that I’ve put into my business. I really try to be the friendly esthetician that not only waxes but offers advice on skincare like how to treat ingrown hairs and etc. I think what sets me apart is I really try my best to be flexible and understanding with my clients. Waxing used to be a luxury and I really wanted to change that by making my prices affordable.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is having happy clients. Obviously, I’d love to be a millionaire one day but in my opinion, the easiest way to get there is making sure you see the return in clientele. Repeat clients is key, without my regulars I would be where I am today.
