Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubree Edwards.
Aubree, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Frank & Georgia started out in an effort for me (Aubree) to find a creative outlet. I come from the wedding photography world and was experiencing creative burnout in the year following the birth of my daughter, Aera, who has a rare chromosomal deletion and special needs. I was searching for a creative outlet where I could just get my hands dirty again. I kind of stumbled into jewelry making after I had been annoyed at the lack of quality I was finding in my everyday jewelry. It faded, Aera broke a few necklaces, and it wasn’t exactly what I wanted. So in an effort to work my mind creatively outside of photography, I taught myself goldsmithing. Eventually, my husband, Jared, started using his marketing and business skills to create a place to sell my work. Our business has become a shared passion and we hope to grow it for years to come. It’s a huge goal of ours to eventually grow to where we can hire individuals with special needs, like our daughter, and support an inclusive community.
Has it been a smooth road?
As we were hunting for suppliers for our various materials and gems, we were shocked to discover the effects of buying cheap, plated metals, unsafe and unethical mining practices, how broken the gold and jewelry market actually is. We very quickly decided to set high standards for everything we were to sell. It would be so easy to buy our base materials for less, but the cost it would have on the people who mine the stones, gold, and the communities around that are simply too high. We want to do everything in our power to stop the cycle, even if it makes it a little harder to find suppliers we trust or costs us a little more along the way. Consumers have such a powerful tool in their decisions, we want to empower them to make good decisions with the products they buy.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Frank & Georgia story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a fine jewelry business that specializes in dainty, everyday fine jewelry. We are most proud of our commitment to sustainability and ethical sourcing. We are transparent in our sourcing of materials everything is made by me (Aubree) in our studio.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think there’ll be more of a shift towards slow fashion and sustainable business. Customers are already looking for more planet-friendly options when they go shopping and I think we’ll continue to see more demand for that as we move through the next 5-10 years.
