Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Deuce.
DJ Deuce, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always wanted to DJ ever since I was in middle school. I was the kid who knew how to find every song and play with the instrumentals and what not. I used to always think that producing and being a DJ were one and the same. So, you can really say me wanting to play with music like a producer would is the real reason for how I got started. It was a side hobby for me throughout middle and high school. Music was my escape whenever I needed a getaway from reality. Music just always seemed to be a source of a good time for me. It was in college when everyone was telling me I had a great ear for music. In 2016, I decided that I wanted to be a serious DJ and see how far I could actually go. One night while I was out in Downtown Dallas, I ran into DJ She-Real, who is a friend of mine, who said she would give me her practice board for me to get started. The day she gave me that board was the day things began to take off. She gave me the basic instructions and skills to begin DJing. That very first night, I spent 8 hours in my living room practicing. From there, I started doing house parties and kickbacks all around UTA. The people were really feeling the energy I brought whenever I was on the tables. My business partner at the time (Kwasi) is one of the people that actually believed in me so much that he invested $2,800 into me for brand new tables and speakers. He is also the reason why I was able to put my foot in the door in the Dallas market as a DJ. In a span of a year to two years, I was one of the youngest DJs in Dallas to hold multiple residencies. I got to the point where I could quit my day job in 2017. After a year, I was able to do what I love and make a living off of it. I just completed my third year in my DJ career. Hoping to have a very long career in this game as long as the lord says the same.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth one. But is anything worth having or doing going to be easy? When you put your all into something, it is going to be tough. I had no real fallback plan if it did not work out for me. This is one of the toughest journeys I have been on. Staying book is a big obstacle that I faced many times when I first started out. Another challenge was not burning myself out or being repetitive doing the same thing over and over each set.
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Open Format DJ, Private DJ. Club DJ.
Provides music and great times.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is someone who is wealthy in all aspects (physically, spiritually, etc.). When I say that I mean your mental health is on point. You’ve accomplished all the goals you set for yourself. Living life the best way you can with no regrets. You don’t have to be the richest person on the planet to be successful.
