Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyenandra Cornell-Lacy.
Lyenandra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I officially started Sauce Appeal January 30, 2017, that’s when I got it registered with the state, but the 1st time I started selling items was the beginning months of 2016. I started out with only nine pairs of sunglasses a few waist trainers and a pack of eyelashes that had a quantity of 10 in each pack. I honestly didn’t know what I was doing, lol. I know I always wanted a business so I thought about all the things I’m good at and the things that I loved and I have always had a fetish for sunglasses and shoes, and honestly just anything that’s having to do with fashion. So, I was like why not start out selling sunglasses, because I was always getting compliments on my frames so I felt started out with sunglasses was a good choice for me.
The start of my business, I didn’t come up with my business name until the end of 2016, I told my best friend who is now my man, lol, that I wanted to start my own business and he was like ok that’s good bae. So, we talked about my ideas and I came up with Sauce Appeal because I feel like I’m Oh so saucy, lol, and he drew a sketch of a logo for me and it went from there. When 2017 came, I asked my uncle to come with me so I could register Sauce Appeal and then boom, I manifested my dreams, it became a reality and now, I’m legally officially a business owner. I got to where I am today, thanks to my family (my mama Lyenise, my Granny Sandra, my little sister Dae’undra, my baby brother Glen, my Auntie Tearie, my uncles Tony and Darrick and my baby cousins Jazz and Jr) and my man as well. They have all played a big part in my success and I will forever love them for that. My fans are also why I am here today as well. They have always been supporting Sauce Appeal by purchasing an item or even sharing a post. I appreciate all of that and the things you all do is never unnoticed.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Becoming a boss was definitely not a smooth road, lol. The struggles of working a job full time sometimes early mornings or graveyard shift, going to school full time, making sure my mama was good after her heart surgery, making sure my bae was good because of his situation and last but not least, all while trying to make sure I stay sane was super challenging. Because sometimes, no a lot of times, I thought I wasn’t going to make it and, depression can creep up on you and you won’t even know it has hit you until you in a sunken place but, I can say 2016-2017 was the worst years of my life, lol, but they were also lessons that turned into big blessings in disguise.
Because I started school, registered my businesses name, my mama felt better and was doing way better after her heart surgery, I graduated from massage therapy school, matured, bossed up, cleared my mind and space of any negative thoughts and people and God opened my eyes to bigger and better things. Another challenge I had was doubting myself and procrastinating, I really had that bad but my best friend a.k.a. my Baby talked that out of me and I actually started believing in myself and putting in the work that was needed in order to become successful and now cant nothing or nobody stop me. So, I will forever love him for that because I use to be super insecure about pushing my business, walking up to strangers and just networking about my business, etc. because I was shy and I’m high key still is BUT now, with the mindset I have, I will walk up to anybody but if you don’t believe in your business, who will? So, that’s why I had to get over that fear of rejection the worst a person can say is yes or no, lol, if they say no to a business card or a conversation about your business, just walk up to the next person, it’s all about being consistent, keep grinding. #SquareBusiness #Facts
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Sauce Appeal is a company that sells accessories such as sunglasses, purses, wallets, backpacks, backpack purses, clutches, shoes, eyelashes, turban headbands, and edge control. Sauce Appeal will be expanding very soon in the near future and will have more items with a wide variety of different selections I’m an upcoming one-stop-shop literally. I am an entrepreneur 24/7, lol, so I’m always on the go, promoting my business on social media or at an event while still finding new affordable item to sell to the public. I specialize in Sauce Appeal, trendsetting and making anybody I came into contact with feel Saucy/confident. I’m known for my having Sauce Appeal (I was really born with it, lol), my ambition/dedication and just being an all-time hard working go-getter. I believe you get the thing you work for so I have to grind every day to achieve my goals. I rather get it the harder way with no complaints. As a company, I’m most proud of what I have accomplished in the past few years and all the obstacles I have overcome and it has definitely made me stronger wiser women. I appreciate the ups and downs, I started out with just a few items, now, I have a whole variety of items to sells. Me getting to this point where I am today to actually believe in myself and talk to a crowd of people wasn’t easy but anything is possible if you have the faith of a mustard seed, no matter how hard it gets, never doubt yourself and manifest your dreams, always think positive of yourself and your abilities to succeed. What sets me apart from others is the facts that I have great customer service skills, I’m very knowledgeable in the fashion department, I have Sauce Appeal and I have the best prices in the city for Exclusive Items.
What were you like growing up?
I’m going to keep it all the way real with you all growing up, I was always the super short girl with the laidback lowkey goofy but crazy personality/attitude, laughing at everything and being cute, lol, but I would still snap if need be. I could get alone with anyone as long as they never disrespected me. At the same time, I was a super bad kid, I was always in trouble and just wanted to do things my way. I have always had a leader spirit, and never backed down to anybody but if I ever let you slide, don’t ever T for test/try me again because I would snap. But thanks to anger management/counseling, I’m a better me, more calm and actually think before I act. In high school, my interest was fashion and cosmetology and to this day, it still is, I’m already pursuing my dream for fashion with Sauce Appeal one day in the future, I will get back in the hair business and take off with that.
