Conversations with the Inspiring Alondra Islas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alondra Islas.

Alondra, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I had always been into doing hair since I was young. I didn’t realize I wanted to actually do this as a career until I was about a Junior in high school. Once I graduate high school back in 2014, I went straight to Beauty School and graduated in 2015. I ended up getting my license until 2016. The moment I received it, I was ready and eager to start my journey as a stylist, so I started looking for work. I went through two salons, I was an assistant at both and I learned so much from each stylist that was there. I didn’t start on my own until 2018, which was when I decided to rent a suite in Mesquite, TX with a really good friend of mines. This journey of being my own boss has been a hassle. I went from starting with 0 clients to being booked almost every day (and as a stylist that was my goal). Being my own boss has its ups and downs, but I do not take for granted anything I have accomplished. I didn’t think I would have made it this far into my career, but from the help of friends and family (especially my fiancee) who have always pushed me to do my best, I am extremely happy I never gave up.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has definitely not been an easy task for me. When I first started on my own, the money I would make, would basically only cover the products that were spent or the rent from that week. I remember crying at some points because I would think I wasn’t good enough for this hair industry and I just remember wanting to give up every moment. My advice for other young women who are just starting out would be, to give yourself time. Never give up on your dream and keep pushing hard until you have reached it. Nothing is impossible if you really have your mindset on it.

What should we know about AmazingAlondra? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in Latina hair mostly. Half of my clients come in with long thick hair and I just love it. I mainly do Balayage, Ombré, and Color Corrections. Every client is a different task. I take my work very seriously and I am very passionate about every single transformation I had made and will make. I am extremely proud of the clients I have gained in the past year. I love making my clients feel very comfortable with me to where they can talk to me about anything. My bond with my clients is amazing and unique. I would say what sets me apart from others is my personality. I am very bubbly and outgoing with anyone. Once you sit in my chair, I will make sure you have the best hair experience you’ve ever had, but more than anything, I will try my best to make your hair dreams come true.

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
I had found what works best for me is social media (Instagram). Having a good caption to attract the viewers and also the hashtags are very important. Hashtagging my work has brought me clients a lot of times. Also, referrals! Referrals has been a big part of gaining some clients as well.
