Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmen Keys.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Have you ever come to a stopping point in your life where you thought it was a stopping point? Well I did. About four years ago, my life took a complete turn and I was at a standstill in my life as a whole. I wasn’t sure which way to go. Little did I know this would be one of the most pivotal moments in my life thus far.
I not only was going through a divorce, which impacted my corporate career severely. I no longer knew myself anymore. I didn’t know what I liked. I was not confident in what I did well anymore…It was a rough position to be in emotionally. Not to mention being a mother of 2 beautiful daughters. Trying to hold up to a standard externally that I no longer felt successful internally. Still, I am strong and my face stayed with smiles day today while I tried to figure out everything else behind closed doors.
I decided to start doing everything different. As much as an introvert I am, I made myself go outside of the box and try new things such as, getting involved with groups that traveled, went out to concerts etc. During my journey of exploring, I ran across a group that was in the process of putting together a Podcast. It sounded interesting to me, and I had never ventured into any part of the “entertainment” world or was I ever interested.
The gentlemen that started the podcast allowed me to be a part of it and I found da new love! Not only did I love it but I was also great at being a journalist. From that point on, I have evolved within being a radio host Fishbowl, DFWIRADIO and others to hosting events and many more. I have hosted several podcasts in the past and now, I conduct exclusive interviews that are broadcasted on my youtube channel.
Has it been a smooth road?
The industry is challenging overall. Building a purposeful network has not been the easiest. You are who your network is. My network circle has evolved quite a bit since the beginning. Finding those who truly want to see you make it and see and believe in your vision is rare. Sometimes it takes for you to go through the bad apples to find those golden apples. Anything rewarding is never easily obtained.
Some do not understand when YOU decide to venture off on your own wave, it can be costly. Some will take advantage and those are additional lessons learned. Finances were a hurdle sometimes. That’s where you get creative and find other avenues to accomplish the goal. It comes down to how bad do you want it? What are you really willing to sacrifice?

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Our city is full of talent and resources. This is a great city for my businesses to grow. The one thing I would love to see our city accomplish would be to learn how to work together to be a powerhouse in every form. We have the people, talent, finances and resources to be larger than any other metroplex. We have to get on one accord on the overall goal and that’s to make it! Make it count!
