Meet Vania Hernandez of The Modern Hair Room in Arlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vania Hernandez.

Vania, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey started back in 2015 when I graduated from Paul Mitchell The School of Arlington. When I started school, I had no idea where life was going to take me. I just knew I wanted to specialize in color and become a salon owner one day. During cosmetology school, I was working a part-time job and also a full-time student. At times it was so stressful but I knew that it was going to be worth it in the future someday.

After graduation, I knew what salon environment I wanted to be in and I was set to find something like what I had in mind. After a year of looking being frustrated and my family pushing me to never give up. I came across Deisy Alfaro’s Instagram, turns out she did a makeup class at my cosmetology school when I was still a student at Paul Mitchell The School Of Arlington. I followed her on Instagram and a couple weeks after that she was searching for an intern to help her assist in her salon suite in Arlington which now is called Pixie Glam Studio. I took the chance and gave it a try and sent her my resume and portfolio. I received an email saying she wanted to interview me. I instantly emailed her back and agreed to meet! After the interview I received a phone call back from Deisy saying I got the intern position. I was so excited and full of emotions. I started my intern with her, soaking everything she had to teach for 6 months. I am so happy to say that now The Modern Hair Room is located inside the Pixie Glam Studio in Arlington Texas. I had the chance to grow and also got the chance to start my very own brand now. Life is something so special it teaches you how to be patient and trust that your destiny is soon to come.

Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. One of the many struggles I had to deal with was family members doubting me and saying that this was not a career. All I could think of was how to prove them wrong. I doubted myself at times and was always scared to be a full time Independent stylist, The thought of not having a steady income always scared me or even not having enough clients to make it through the month. I was working at a pawn shop full time and not really dedicating myself to my brand because that job took all of my time. It was very hard for me to make this move. With the help of my loved ones i was able to make the shift and finally dedicate my all to my beautiful clients and my brand which is now, The Modern Hair Room.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Modern Hair Room – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Modern Hair Room focuses more on modern hair techniques and styles. I love to create modern looks for my clients which means a more seamless look for them. The hair trends change every year and that is why the modern hair room focuses more on the current hair trends.

I specialize in color and style. I believe I am known for the balayage and also for my sense of humor when clients sit on my chair. I love to make them the most comfortable as they can be. And also make them giggle!

I am the most proud of as a company of how much it has grown within the last two years of being a full time hairstylist.

I believe what sets me apart from others is the determination I put into my business. Also the customer service i offer to my clients just to make them the happiest in my chair.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The best thing about Dallas is how many small shops get the opportunity to grow so quickly. Also we have many artistic people that are from Dallas. The city view has to be one of my favorite things about Dallas. Leaves me speechless every time I drive by.

One of the main things i love about our city is the traffic, Just kidding ha ha! Traffic is no fun. That would be one of the main least thing I like about our city. traffic can be really hectic at times in Dallas.
