Meet MiLK in Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to MiLK.

MiLK, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
What’s poppin voyage Dallas! I am a rapper from the south that’s where I came from , I was born and raised in oak cliff , I wasn’t a bad kid growing up although I did stay in trouble in school I’d mess with kids and I guess you can say I was a bully, I would always get into fights during school and mom was always getting phone calls from the office telling her to pick her son up because he was acting up!. My father was locked up for a fat minute and I fell into depression as a kid, he led me to be the best of me and always put me on different types of music. He first introduced me to 2 pac when I was like four years old and ever since I loved watching all kinds of music videos, time flew and I was a only child living with my mother for five years and it was pretty rough I can say like I said I’d get into fights in the streets and always came home with wounds lol. At the age of nine I moved over to Duncanville but kept going to a school in oak cliff and it kinda sucked leaving all my friends from the old crib but I adapted over here, it’s cool I guess most of my “fans” or supporters as I like to say are from Duncanville and Grand Prairie.

I have a good listing in oak cliff it’s cool not really tripping I have a pretty big supporting system and I honestly wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them. I got into sports around the 5th grade I started playing soccer and at the time there was lots of rappers popping at the moment, I played soccer for the school and before a game I’d always listen to rappers like lil Wayne, Tpain, Kanye, the game 50 cent and other artist I look up to, On my way to the games I’d spit a freestyle with the homies and they’d always compliment me cause I actually had it. During middle school I was into the whole fashion thing and I’d try creating my own clothing pieces, my dad got released and he moved back in with my mother and surprisingly everything fell into place.

I can say I want through a big change when he came back around. Honestly without him I think I’d be up to no good, I was surrounded by people who sold drugs and just around a bad environment. I made my first song in 2015 at my cousins house, my cousin was so eager to be a YouTuber so he had all the tools and equipment to somewhat make a studio in his room, so one day we were in the room just kickin it and I told him bro what if we just make a song right now, just for fun! And he told me “yea we can it’ll be easy” so we made the song and It was trash good Lord what was I thinking but it was fun you know? Hearing my voice on the beat made me feel cool so we made another one and another and another one. Each song got better and better and better. I never really dropped the music because at the time it was like 2014 ish and SoundCloud wasn’t really poppin, so starting my freshman year was when I started actually dropping music on SoundCloud.

I got made fun of and criticized by a lot of people but I’ve always been the type to never care of people’s opinions, I was always the kid dressing up showing out to school and I would get along easily with everyone, sophomore year was when I took a big step with the music, I dropped a song called “fake smiles” and it hit 10k plays in three months which was big for me, after that I swear I don’t know what got into me but each track I’d drop it would just do numbers like

Crazy! I dropped my 2nd big hit called “headshot” it hit 10k in one month and after that I just kept dropping music. Keep in mind I was still playing soccer, coaches were straight up dicks I couldn’t stand them and came junior year and that’s when everything changed, I got recognition from rappers like Comethazine, Xavier Wulf, Trill Sammy, Dice Soho, Rizzo Rizzo and more. All my songs had 20k plays and up so I kept going. My parents would doubt me but that’s what motivated me even more. My dad was upset when I told him I no longer want to go to college and quit soccer. I told them that I was going to stick to the script and keep going with or without their support and boom I got put on a show in Dallas it was local. It was honestly the best day of my life I had everyone screaming my name it felt unbelievable. It’s crazy how I wasn’t nervous at all I just did my thing as I was destined to after that day that’s when I said okay yea it’s too late to quit any of this shit I have to keep going. After that I had my guy shoot a recap of the show he goes by the name of Ori Bro is sick with the visuals.

I started performing locally then and kept getting a lot of recognition and even got put on two shows in SXSW, I met so many celebrities it felt so weird it was like if I was dreaming. I got all my music published on all Major platforms and met a lot of dope local rappers like the Homie Ease and Wastee, I started recording at their studio and to tell you the truth I learned a lot from them. I’m actually dropping a shirt ep with Wastee and dropping two visuals this year and plenty of more.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
