Life and Work with Laura Torres

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Torres.

Laura, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I love being a hairdresser! I first started at a salon named Toni & Guy. They taught me every technique and formula there is to know for me to feel comfortable before stepping out onto the main floor. After being there for a few years, a friend and I decided to venture out on our own. Taking that step changed our lives forever.

It has been eleven years and I love being my own boss. I have since then added eyelash extensions as one of my services! Making my clients feel good about themselves brings me so much joy. Every woman wants to feel on top of the world! Sometimes I cannot believe I have come this far and still growing! I appreciate all my clients for allowing me to do what I love most!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It most definitely has not been a smooth road! My business partner and I did lots of research and still had bumps in the road. There are things that pop up you never knew about, then you have to figure that out as well. It is rewarding though, especially if you can tough it out to the end. There are still things that come up throughout your journey, but you have to remember why you started! It is always easy to walk away. I will never walk away. I will push through till I see my end result! My advice for younger women is never let an obstacle discourage you. You will be so proud of yourself when you reach that goal!

Tell us more about your work.
As a hairdresser, I specialize in hair color and eyelash extensions. I love seeing my clients transformation! I am all about my clients. I want them to feel new and desirable! What better feeling is there? My clients and I have a special bond, we trust each other!

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
For all the young women trying to decide on a career, my best advice for you is to make sure you are willing to work the hours that are needed for that job. Some careers require you to work late nights and weekends. While some require 24 hours. Make sure you love what you do because it will get tiring at times but it will be worth it!
