Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirk Hanes.
Kirk, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started Homes By Hanes in July 2013, we are small investment group that buys broken homes and fixes them.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have always dabbled in fixing homes and in 2012 had sold a business that I had owned and was looking for a new start, so I bought my first house in 2013 and barely broke even but I made a few hundred bucks I was a little disappointed but in this business you must move forward and go to the next house and that’s what I did, I also have the passion for this business with loving to see the end result on a beautiful home that a family will come and live for years to come. Today we will typically do 2-3 new builds and 3-4 flips in the year. I also have a partner that will do most flips with he also does his own new builds and remodels in the Rockwall and surrounding areas with over 20 years’ experience.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Homes By Hanes story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a small investment group that buys homes that need TLC, also build new homes for customers from ground up specializing in custom work from top to bottom. We specialize in taking burned homes and bringing them back to life. It’s amazing to see a 3000 sqft house that has burned all the upstairs and then to rebuild this back to an even more beautiful home for a family. What I like to see the most is when we have a finished product and to just step back and look at what we have accomplished and to know some family will enjoy this house for years to come is amazing!!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Timing is the key for this business, to be in front of that person maybe wanting to sell their home, or knowing folks that are in real estate that can point you in the right direction. With a lot of luck and persistence you will be successful! I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have!
