Meet Andy Pham of Andy’s Macarons in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andy Pham.

Andy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started out in high school just being curious about French Macarons. Baking and Culinary Arts have always been something that I was interested in. After the first failed attempt, I kept trying and trying. Once I liked the end result, Macarons were something I brought to parties, gatherings, and gave as gifts. People started asking where I got them and wanted my Macarons at their events. From there it grew, I pop up at different markets and events whenever I get a chance.

I am currently finishing my last year of undergraduate education at The University of Texas in Dallas, located in Richardson, TX, pursuing a Bachelor’s in Finance. The school has kept me very busy, so I am only able to participate in events and pop up markets whenever my schedule permits.

I’ve always been a self-starter who likes to think of things differently than others. Andy’s Macarons was something I started in High School and it continues to be something I enjoy to do whenever I am able to.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been very tough, I started in high school, and that held different challenges than being in college. I call Andy’s Macarons my entrepreneurial venture project. It has and continues to teach me so much, and I am so satisfied when people enjoy something that I made.

Time has been a big struggle, just having the time to prepare, make and participate in a pop up is a lot of work; and, cleaning up and putting things away after is no less of an effort.

Laws and regulations have been a struggle, its not easy to do things when different cities require different things and you only have a limited amount of capital to spend.

The weather here in Texas is a challenge at the different markets and events. Sometimes it’s too hot that I have to figure out how to keep the macaron filling from melting in the Texas heat, and other times I am freezing my fingers off outside in the cold winter air. Sometimes it’s a struggle to keep everything from flying away, others it’s trying to keep the rain from making everything a mess.

Please tell us about business.
I specialize in Macarons, thus the name Andy’s Macarons. I try to provide the best quality Macarons that taste great. I work a lot on what flavors I make. I try to come up with flavors that taste luxurious, delicious and keep people wanting more. It brings me so much happiness when people come back and tell me they loved my Macarons and get some more before they leave. I’m glad I was able to give them the experience and a product that they enjoyed very much.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I’m not entirely sure. I like the path that I have been on, it has taught me so much and I am the person I am because of those experiences I’ve been through as a part of Andy’s Macarons.
