Today we’d like to introduce you to Neha Bhargava.
Neha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Motherhood is a hard, self-driven journey, that requires the best of you in toughest of times and hardest of days. My journey from pregnancy to postpartum has been a roller coaster. As much as I love to mother my little boy, exhaustion is now my middle name. And all of this, in a nutshell, can make you feel pretty lost and crave to do something for yourself.
I wanted to do something that would keep my skills and my qualifications alive while I also raise my little human. I wanted to work from home, work towards a career and also manage the umpteen household chores. But guess what? In this really ‘modern era’ not many companies are fine hiring you to work from home. I interviewed couple of times and was rejected on this sole reason. With double Master’s degree (one in Biotechnology and other in Business Administration) I could not score a remote job. Truth!
I started looking for more options that would give me the flexibility to work from home while also raising my baby. Blogging was always on my mind, always considered an option, just had no idea about any how- to’s. That’s when I started researching a lot. While I am still relatively new to the blogging world, I am thankful of some opportunities that have come my way through my Instagram blog. More than anything, my blog on motherhood provides me with an outlet to my creative side, my writing skills (may not be where I want it to be though), use what I have learned in my business classes, especially marketing and most importantly, share my experiences as a mother that could benefit someone. Being a mom, I have always leaned on other moms, my mom friends and moms in my family to seek advice from their experiences. It has really helped me. Moms are the best form of resources for moms. And this gives me the necessary push to share my journey, my experiences. what worked best for me and what didn’t and also share the changing seasons of emotions that motherhood plays you with.
Instagram blogging requires right strategies, marketing, self-promotion and hard work as many fail to notice. A lot of collaborations that work for me need a good brand pitching and then selling of the concepts which means more engagement in the Instagram world that comes from creating quality content and having an audience that trusts you. The more I research the more I learn to do that and implement my ideas. The more I produce results, the more I grow.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s never a smooth road for anyone who is starting from scratch and building their way up. My number one struggle is time management. As much as I wanted to work from home, having no childcare requires me to be present for my child while also keeping up with my deadlines.
Another struggle is keeping up at it. You need self-motivation, focus despite all the distractions and constant training. There is just so much out there, that there is never enough knowledge. Things change and you got to keep up with everything. I have days when I feel so low on motivation, days when you put your best foot in and you still don’t get the results you really wanna see and when you feel like quitting. But you pull yourself together, and work harder and come back more intensely in your projects.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I write a blog on motherhood, that focuses on empowering moms, helping them, giving a shoulder, exchanging ideas, sharing experiences and taking small steps to walking through this journey. I also Instagram on motherhood and everything home. I love how much I have built a community that trusts my work. It is a constant work in progress and also full of little achievements.
I was raised in India and I live in Dallas and this cultural mix helps me tie in both and create unique content for my audience. What it means to my mom followers is that my blog offers a lot of insights on cultural parenting, incorporating different lifestyles to motherhood and using the best of both worlds in building a strong foundation for raising children. What it means for brands is that I offer both a vast area of target audience under the motherhood/ homemaker umbrella and also a focus group that we refer to as cultural marketing.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Dallas for it’s diversity and family friendliness. The size of the city is huge giving me a bigger audience and greater opportunities to grow. Dallas offers so many things- indoors and outdoors to do with kids. The weather gives more flexibility throughout the year. The mom audience for my blog is huge in Dallas, thus giving me greater chances of connecting, reaching out to and making an impact. Although you can blog from any city, what city you are in does make a difference. You make better connections with the audience when they can totally relate to your location. I ultimately want to create a community of moms who help and support each other and I know that I can start local and grow from there.
