Meet Yung Bern of Soul Broken Soldiers Entertainment in Pleasant Grove

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yung Bern.

Yung, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
All my life I was a kid who always saw his mom struggle financially, always was in trouble but also was always the one that thought older or deeper than everybody. I started rapping by writing poems about the hood by the age of 12. It later grew into rap when I turned 15. At 16 I went through a major car crash and was seconds away from losing my life with my best friend who died in front of me that day. Although that happened I never let it take me out of the streets, as I said I was always into trouble. Shortly after the accident, my other best friend recorded my first song ever on my SoundCloud. He shortly passed away after that from someone shooting him behind his head. That woke me up to go hard for everyone and everything

Has it been a smooth road?
Honestly, the struggles were just living where I’m living at till this day and that’s only because nobody sees or looks for who’s coming out of the pleasant grove. As for the struggles of my life they’ve just been being crossed by people you love, law enforcement, and the overall struggle of living in the hood.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Soul Broken Soldiers Entertainment is a record label that I started when I was 15. We have our own clothing line, look forward for movies, and help other upcoming artists from our city. I’m proud to say since the start when I launched the first set of shirts, they sold out instantly within two days. People like the name of the record label because that’s what separates us from others. Being heartbroken and being soul Broken are two different things. A break up makes you heartbroken but when something so tragic happens in your life that separates your thinking from everyone else’s way of thinking, now that’s what being soul Broken is. As far as the soldier part well anybody from where I’m from that’s seen everything I’ve seen as still here playing it off then they’re Soldiers just as much as me or anyone under the label.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Our city is a beautiful place but it’s also a place with a lot of hate. If we all just understand that we’re all coming out of the same place then the hate could disappear because people don’t like seeing other people come up where they’re from.
