Today we’d like to introduce you to Lena Magenheimer.
Lena, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Me and my husband Karl Magenheimer started Jump City in 1999 when he was diagnosed with cancer. We started with 5 basic bounce houses and a pickup truck. We were told by doctors he would die from cancer within 5 years and we had 4 children at home. My husband started chemo and shortly had to stop working. It was up to me and my kids to make it work. Year after year we kept working on growing our business and my husband kept on fighting cancer. We made numerous trips to MD Anderson and bought bigger inflatables and a box truck!
In June 2014, my husband became ill with pneumonia and passed away suddenly even though his cancer was under control. Me and my children kept working. We always remember his slogan: Never disappoint a child!
My children are all grown now and working on their careers but still help me with our family business. It was a blessing for me to own Jump City when my husband passed away. It kept me busy and it is nice to deliver happiness and joy to children!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When I look back now I really do not know how we made it happened. It was very hard but we kept going day by day. We had a lot of difficulties because our business is seasonal and we had to work very hard in the summer and make money last thru the winter. My husband’s health was always our priority and we tried to plan chemo treatments during the winter. My children were a big help. They are very hardworking and very dependable. We made it work and my husband was our example because he was fighting every day to stay alive!
Please tell us about Jump City.
We rent inflatables for parties and events. We are a family owned and operated company not a franchise. We care about each customer and treat each party like our own party. Jump City is a proud vendor for LISD, we support local schools and churches.
