Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Clark.
Tiffany, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a millennial, I understand the importance of multiple streams of income. I started about a year ago learning how to design and make t-shirts when my line sisters and I were always looking to get shirts for various events. At first, it was just a fun way to get additional income. However, I realized I was turning down a lot of money because I did not have time with a full-time job to get them done, only utilizing the weekends or evenings when I got home from work.
I’ve also began selling Mary Kay. I’m not at all a makeup artist or profess to be but I can now talk about the importance of healthy skin. I remember the first time I was asked about joining the company and I thought “I’m not a seller” but honestly it sells itself. Then, I was introduced to a college student who makes $200,000 a year selling Mary Kay and I’m like she’s on a college campus doing it then I know I can. A lot of times when we think of Mary Kay, we think of older people but really it’s a lot of younger folks who are in it and thriving. The Mary Kay brand is about God, family and then career which is very important to me, plus tell me a company that gives you a car for being an awesome leader!
I’ve combined the two streams of income into one: “I’m where custom beauty and tee’s meet for an Akkomplished Experience”.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road to success is not straight, it is curved and windy with forks in the streets. I believe with everything you do in life be prepared for the setbacks and the lessons. I haven’t looked for anything to be smooth other than my trust in God who will guide the way. I know the God I serve and I know he always has a plan for me. I remember setting out a 5-year plan for my life but when God steps in and disrupts that plan, you have to trust him. I never questioned God on why I was going through some of the things I went through in my previous place of employment because it was his way of making me uncomfortable to get to where I am today. When you are comfortable you stop growing and learning, it’s when you become uncomfortable where God challenges you to put all your trust back into him.
I personally struggled with price setting in the beginning because I wanted to be fair and reasonable but people will pay you for your service as long as your product is solid. I’ve also realized if I have 5 minutes to spend on social media then I have time to run a business.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Accomplished Tee’s is all about making custom shirts allowing people to express themselves through what they wear. It’s an outward expression of free speech, a lot of times what you have on can be a conversation starter that leads to an array of opportunities and connections. I’m most proud of the “You Good Bro, You Good Sis #mentalhealthmatters” shirts because it has allowed people to easily check in on the mental health of someone which is a taboo subject amongst our community.
Being an Independent Mary Kay Beauty Consultant is probably the most rewarding company, I have worked for. Although you work for yourself, you are connected to a group of women who share a similar philosophy which is what Mary Kay Ash envisioned: “God first, family second and career third.” I think what we fail to realize is we spend a lot of money on clothes, shoes, etc. but yet we will pay $5 on a product for our face. Sadly, our face should be a priority of care because it’s the first thing people see when they meet you. I’ve developed a ‘praise and compliment session’ in my pamper parties to combat the notion that women are against each other – so during this time we uplift each other by sharing praises. Looking good and feeling good is a form of WOMEN EMPOWERMENT.
What sets me apart is I’m not afraid to step out on faith and allow God to order my steps and if that is you then I welcome you to join my Mary Kay team.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The cosmetic industry is always going to be a growing entity. When the recession happened in 2007, cosmetics was third behind alcohol and tobacco. Mary Kay is always adapting their products to make sure we are providing the best to our clients. Currently, our newest line is Naturally which is free of parabens, phthalates, synthetic fragrance, synthetic dyes, and SLS/SLES. This line is 90% derived from ingredients from natural sources. If we are doing this now, then there is no telling what we will offer in the next 5-10 years.
