Today we’d like to introduce you to Esteban Mariel.
Esteban, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We are a family-owned business founded by brothers Manuel, Esteban, Felipe and our father Federico Mariel. We specialize in futsal, a game similar to soccer and whose popularity is rapidly growing around the world. We started off in 2011 as a training program to help soccer players enhance their individual skills of the game. At this point, we were renting fields and courts at School and Church gyms to run the program. We saw the need to be able to have our own space because we could never get consistent court time to expand our programming and offer a consistent service. So we got into managing space and building and expanding on more of our programming, like our Leagues.
We currently operate a facility in Richardson TX and a facility in Carrollton TX with indoor courts where our primary focus is on the youth market running leagues, tournaments, training and our youth soccer club, City Futsal FC. We opened a new Sports Park on June 2019 at the Dallas Farmers Market where a lot of our programming is centered on activities for adults, such as events, parties, leagues, tournaments, pick-up games, yoga classes, boot camps, skills classes and open play hours. Featuring an outdoor turf field, beach volleyball courts, a covered court and bar.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
100% we have had our share of struggles, from acquiring space and what programs to offer to educate people on Futsal. Being that Futsal is not as well knows in the states we have to put a lot of time and effort into educating the North Texas soccer market on what futsal is and what benefits the sport has on youth players. Working with family and friends can always be a challenge, but we persevere.
Please tell us about your business.
First and foremost we specialize in and are know for Futsal, from training to competition we have always been at the forefront, but now we have a brand new Sports Park in the heart of Dallas which has brought our company into a totally new chapter. We are now able to offer multiple sports on multiple surfaces for a completely different market than what we are used to and we are extremely excited about this opportunity.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If we had to start over there are definitely some things that we would change in the way we did business internally, but I don’t believe we would change the programs and services we offer.
