Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Copeland.
Jessica, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Party planning has always been something I’m into, its a passion of mine. Watching my mother get prepared for my little brother’s birthday parties was always a highlight of my year. Edward (my brother) was born in October so she’d have these huge Halloween bashes every year. I’d watch her and I knew that one day I wanted to do something similar. When we were planning the grand opening for the Venue and starting the renovations, I found out I was finally pregnant with my first son. I named him Edward and he was born in October. This year he’ll turn two and I’ll throw a party for him at the venue. The venue is something I always wanted to have and having people celebrate special moments and knowing I played some part in it is an amazing feeling.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been a few struggles along the road, anytime your jumping into something your not use it, it’s going to be uncomfortable at times. You are doing something you love and failure in the back of your mind is a constant struggle. Either people don’t know you’re there yet and business gets slow or the bathroom leaks the day of someone’s wedding. Just one of those things we have to understand we can not always control. My husband has played a huge role in backing me up when I need he’s definitely my own personal janitor, handyman and electrician. It takes teamwork.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I own an event venue seven minutes from downtown Fort Worth that I rent out for parties, meetings, etc. It’s a small intimate space ideal for bridal showers, baby showers.
What were you like growing up?
I’m the daughter of two immigrant parents, both born in Mexico. They moved to the U.S. with their families in hopes of a better life and more opportunities and then later became U.S. citizens. I’m very family-oriented, holidays are a huge deal, birthdays are too. I’m the oldest of my four siblings. I was always more of an artistic, hands-on, free-spirited person, I was the high school mascot for South Hills High School and graduated in 2003. You know just a couple of years ago, haha.
