Meet Xavier Flowers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Xavier Flowers.

Xavier, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started singing/performing as early as 3rd grade. Even at that young age, I was heavily influenced by old school artists such as Stevie Wonder and Teddy Pendergrass. My mother and my cousin Ayanna Porter (aka INOJ) really encouraged me to pursue music and definitely discovered my talent way before I ever did.

When I started modeling back in 2017 I only did freelance work. It wasn’t until May of this year when I was scouted by my current agency EVO Model Management and started working with them.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road for me has been quite a laborious situation, especially for modeling. Once I turned 18 I had gone full force with pursuing a career in modeling and had my eyes set on signing a contract with one of the many modeling agencies in Dallas. I remember going to all of the agencies and getting rejected by ALL of them. For the most part, agencies won’t tell you why they choose not to proceed with you but a few of them did for me. They would always limit me because I “wasn’t the tallest” or they “weren’t sure of what market I’d fit in”. Even as a signed model I still deal with plenty of rejection and push back. It just comes with the business.

Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I am an artist and a model. I would like to think that I specialize in R&B music and fashion editorials, but I try not to limit myself to just one category when there are so many different fashion markets and styles of music out there. My biggest accomplishment so far has been releasing my EP ‘Growing Pains’ which I had started writing back in my junior year of high school. I think what sets me apart from many artists today is that I really have a grasp on what real R&B feels like. Over time I feel like the genre itself has in a way digressed and a lot of artists don’t tell stories through their music. My goal is to bring that feeling back and create work that is as relatable as possible.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
It took me doing literally one open mic night at the Open Eye Event in Arlington, TX to realize just how much the DFW is thriving in the music scene! There is so much unity and southern hospitality in Dallas making it an ideal place for anybody to get there foot in the door.
