Meet David Howard of Kinder Harbors Animal Sanctuary

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Howard.

Thanks for sharing your story with us David. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We started Kinder Harbors Animal Sanctuary with the intent of being in development for a few years and then trying to position ourselves so that we could actually go into operations. That hasn’t happened. Instead we have been assisting other non-profit animal rescues and sanctuaries with their operations and also helping individuals with their animals. We still want to launch KHAS into a fully functioning animal sanctuary but we recognize that we must have all sustainable elements in place before we will be able to accomplish this. Our next project is producing an informational video on those same sustainable elements and how pertinent it is for individuals or groups to make certain they have sufficient planning and projection in place as well as all of the consistent funding, personnel, resources and supplies that will be needed.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been a smooth road because we have taken baby steps, realizing that no individual or group should bite off too large a chunk of responsibility before they are able to deal with and handle it with efficiency and effectiveness and of course, sustainability.

Kinder Harbors Animal Sanctuary – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We really haven’t done anything more outstanding than any other rescue or sanctuary but we have been very cautious in not moving ahead until we are ready. I think this sustainability video that is going into production in 2017 might be one of our major high points.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I place a lot of significance on integrity and following through on our projects and on the mission of our non-profit organization. I make certain that every project that KHAS gets involved with has a very direct and effective impact on helping the animals. We’re very grass roots so I like to see the majority of our efforts or any funds that are spent to largely help the animals and for very little to go to administration or some other expenses.
