Meet Carrie Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Harris.

Carrie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story is an interesting one. I’m actually a transplant from Massachusetts who moved to Texas on a wing and a prayer. The year before I moved here, I made $16,000 total in a fellowship program (and had nothing saved up.) but I had faith there was more than the situation I was in. I ended up finding a job in Waco, Texas, a city I had never visited or known about. Since I didn’t, I stayed in an extended stay hotel for about three months then finally moved into an apartment. from there I knew that this was only a temporary stay, so I never bought a bed for my one bedroom apartment and I and my cat shared a Walmart futon for a full year.

About six months into living in Waco, I earned the title of Miss Black Texas US Ambassador, the first one to earn this title in the state of Texas. Most of my appearances/speaking engagements were in Dallas, Texas so I ended up traveling to Dallas very often. From there, I knew it was home. So I moved to Dallas six months from when I received the title and from there I transitioned careers and figured out my life’s purpose was to encourage other women to take the faith leaps that they are supposed to reach their purpose.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! I had to overcome severe depression, suicide and anxiety. I had friends who were the closest to me leave me, lost a job and faced eviction. but through it all, I knew that on the other side of the struggle was the purpose. I didn’t go through it all for no reason, but to help others to endure as well.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
“Coffee Talk with Carrie” is an internet radio show on The Fishbowl Radio Network that fosters the mind, body and spirit of a woman so that they walk boldly into who they are created to be. We touch upon various topics that pertain to the challenges women have to face in society when it comes to walking into their purpose.

The inspiration behind the show is my actual journey to discovering and walking into my purpose. I realized that some of the walls I faced could have been avoided if someone had told or showed me this, so the radio show strives to instill that the guests come from all walks of life, from entrepreneurs, mothers, those in the corporate world etc. They are people who have made some sort of an impact on my life, that I know will enrich other women.

Even though it’s a show focused on women, some of my guests are men because they too can instill into women’s lives as well. Sometimes, they are our greatest fans!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m looking forward to seeing the impact of the show. I want women to gain the tools they need to walk into their purpose. So, seeing the progression of my audience in their own lives is what I’m looking forward to. As for future plans, I’m planning on taking this on the road. Conferences, girl gang meetups, etc. This isn’t just an internet radio show but a movement.
