Today we’d like to introduce you to Luke Rogers.
Luke, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in Memphis, TN and began working as a dishwasher when I was 15. When I realized I loved cooking and hospitality, I did everything I could to deepen my understanding and harness my passion for cooking. I went on to work as an apprentice for Ristorante Vespasia in Norcia, Italy where I played a role in helping the restaurant achieve a second Michelin star, one of the world’s most premier ratings awarded to a select few restaurants. Following that, I apprenticed at Jose Andres two Michelin starred restaurant Minibar in Washington, D.C. Shortly after, I became an Executive Chef at the Sofitel Luxury Hotel in downtown Philadelphia, before I came to join Savor in Dallas.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There are challenges to everyone’s journey, and I’m thankful for the scars because without them I wouldn’t be who I am today. My friends used to tell me that I pulled myself up from my own bootstraps, and that’s true… I started with nothing, I actually felt like I started in a hole and had to dig myself out of it. There were times I was really down, but my faith has kept me from a lot of the problems associated with the hospitality industry, though. I’m very grateful that I’ve been able to follow my dreams and for every door, that’s been opened for me!
We’d love to hear more about your work.
We have a refined, sustainable and accessible style of contemporary cuisine that elevates the menu here at Savor. Inspired by the innovative local food scene in Dallas, we fuse instinctive French and Italian ingredients with local and seasonal fare using herbs, vegetables, coupled with exceptional meats and seafood. We have exceptionally high standards and we value collaboration with our team, and we have fun every day! The real reason we strive for perfect food is to make people happy, that’s why we cook, to care for others.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For me personally: I have big dreams, to cultivate a reputation and legacy. It starts with the daily experience of our guests… with every single person who dines at Savor. We have the opportunity to make their day, every day. The guest’s satisfaction from our hospitality, that’s a success.
