Today we’d like to introduce you to Damian Price.
Damian, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in Dallas, Texas and have been moving around the DFW metroplex my whole life. I’ve been in Arlington for the past 12 years & here is where I’ve made a bit of a name for myself in the underground music scene. I started taking pictures and videos in September of 2018 not having a clue as to how to even work a camera. It wasn’t until I started doing photography for the Arlington open mic event Open E.y.e Events, that I actually started to take it more seriously.
Under the Instagram account @d_angle_tho (kind of cheesy, yes) I was able to break through the photography & videography scene in only a few months. Being an Rnb singer myself, I only got a camera so that I could shoot my own music videos without it costing me an arm & a leg. I quickly realized how much I loved the art of photography & videography and dove headfirst into it all. My first two music videos I’ve shot and edited by were for artists Shay Raziel & Ali Mozart the founders of Open E.y.e events. You can find the video for ’Mood’ & ‘Bet’ on YouTube now.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Learning how to use a camera and finding my style has been a very challenging road. I’m still learning and teaching myself every day but that’s the fun part. The hardest part is getting people to respect you as an artist enough to pay you for your work. It’s not easy to put a price on yourself but once it is set people tend to devalue you. It’s a struggle but I think that the future is getting bright for me.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m mostly known for my photography & videography. I’ve done music videos, weddings, live music events such as Open E.y.e Events, Speakeasy in Arlington. You can find most of my work on these event pages (@spokeneasy & @open_eye_events) or just by searching the hashtags for these events.
What I’m most proud of is that I’m completely self-taught & what makes me different is the support from the community I’m a part of. The love at these events are unmatched anywhere else.
Though I love the camera, music is always one of my first loves. I have been singing since I was a child & started song writing at 13. I have one solid project out right now on SoundCloud called ‘The Fruits of My Labor’ and I just released a single on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, & Tidal called ‘Still Do’ which is the video I originally bought my camera to shoot. I started shooting this video this October so expect to see it in mid-November. My music style is mainly Neo-Soul but that is not a box I want to stay in. I love all styles of music & will be exploring every genre I can!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment was dropping my first two music videos ‘Mood’ by Shay Raziel and Ali Mozart & ‘Bet’ by Ali Mozart ft Jizzle Get ‘ Em. I’m so glad they gave me the opportunity to do them.
