Today we’d like to introduce you to Candice Morrison.
Candice, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
January 2018 I entered Fort Worth Beauty School-Lake Worth Campus’ Esthetics program and completed the program four months early. I attended the National Laser Institute in Dallas in October 2018 and graduated as a Laser Safety Officer, Laser Hair Removal Technician, and Tattoo Removal Technician. I returned to Fort Worth Beauty School-Lake Worth Campus, but this time as an Esthetics Student Instructor, where I also graduated the program early as well. During all of that, I managed to put my business together, Gardenia Studio Fort Worth.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There were LOTS of struggles along the way! My days started early, I was in class almost 30 minutes early every day to make sure our classrooms and clients scheduled for the day were ready to go. And then after school, I would be at my studio preparing my room, such as painting, cleaning, and getting established to open after I graduated and was licensed as an Esthetician. And then, late nights of studying, I did that for seven months.
National Laser Institute was very intense, with two solid weeks on sometimes 12-14 hours of training per day. When I returned to Fort Worth Beauty School, but as Student Instructor at that point, I knew that I could not focus on my books and studying during my school day, but I had to direct my attention more with instructing my students on state board material and preparing them for their future careers. I spend the majority of my evenings in Gardenia Studio seeing my clients and then having some late nights studying and preparing for my state exams.
Please tell us about your business.
Gardenia Studio was founded in June of 2018. The story of the name was told by my mother, Renee. She said that my Great Aunt, Mildred Holden had a big Gardenia bush in her front yard and it smelled so pretty. I always thought my Great Aunt was a beautiful person from the stories I’ve heard about her. Both she and her husband were tragically killed by a drunk driver in the late 1970’s.
So, I’m an Esthetician! The studio has been decorated with items from New Orleans and has a french-style feel to the place. I specialize in skin rejuvenation. I mainly known for my Esthemax Hydrojelly masks and also my Diamond Microdermabrasion. I only use skincare products on my clients that are professional and only sold to Licensed Estheticians.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I will be expanding the studio and also adding a formal Esthetics school with continuing education and advanced courses within the next two years.
