Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Mckinnon.
Holly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born in Carlswell Air Force base Ft. Worth, Texas on November 11, 1988. I grew up in Grand Prairie and went to South Grand Prairie High School. Upon graduating, I enrolled in Ogle School of Hair, Skin, and Nails. After 1500 hours, I received my cosmetology license. I am now a full-time stylist making hair dreams come true!!!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growing up was not easy. My dad was gone a lot due to being enlisted in the military. My mom was also in and out of my life. I was raised by my grandmother whom I loved dearly. When she passed my world was crushed. I had one daughter with another on the way. Although times were tough I kept picking myself up and moving forward. A few years later I met the love of my life and we are now happily married. Going to school full time while also working and maintaining the family had its struggles but I knew if I just got up and thanked God for what I had and how far I’ve come, everything would be OK.
Please tell us about your work.
I currently work at Daireds Salon and Spa in Arlington Texas we specialize in fashion colors, highlights, balayage, ombre, Precision cutting, extensions, and so much more. I love that work doesn’t feel like work every day, it just feels like I’m hanging out with a bunch of my friends doing what I love.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
When I was in 2nd grade, me and a few school friends dressed up as spice girls and entered the talent show I was posh spice.
