Meet Lucina Gamez-Thieleman of Posh Hair Salon in Keller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucina Gamez-Thieleman.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lucina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I knew I wanted to do hair since I was 6 years old. I remember sitting in the stylist chair ready for my back to school haircut. I took in everything, the energy the stylist had, the way the client’s faces beamed with joy because they felt beautiful, and the smell of the salon. At that exact moment, I fell in love with the industry. I knew I wanted to be a hairstylist and one day opening my very own salon!

My parents thought I would outgrow my dream (In all fairness I was 6), but the older I got the more my love and passion grew for hair. Once my parents realized how serious I was they tried to convince me to follow in my brother’s footsteps and work towards a “better career”. After many years of hearing my parent’s disapproval in my career choice, I decided to apply to colleges for a business degree. That year I was accepted to the University of Colorado Denver. My love for beauty was on hold, but I was determined to eventually become a hairstylist.

I graduated High school in 2005, and that summer I found out I was pregnant. I decided to put school on hold and focus on being a mom. Five days after my 19th birthday I had my daughter. I was a single mother, but my determination was stronger than ever. I needed to be a successful role model for my daughter. I enrolled in a beauty school three months later. I was a full-time mom, student, and a part-time employee. I eventually graduated and started my career at Ulta. Two years later I started the journey to become self-employed and eventually open a salon. My goal was to be a business owner by the age of 30.

After eight years of perfecting my talent, I picked up the keys to my very own salon, meeting my personal goal at the age of 30. We have been open for two years, and I have an amazing, successful team!

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. We have had a few bumps along the road a lot of learning curves, tears and sleepless nights. The biggest challenge I have had to face has been finding the right team. I knew what I was looking for, and I was not willing to settle for filling open positions. I looked for a team that loves the salon as much as I do, loves our clients, and most importantly loves our industry.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My vision for Posh Hair Salon was to create an environment where our clients could relax after a long day at the office or with the kids, without feeling like they were coming to a chain salon.

My team and I value continued-education. In our industry, you can never know too much. We attend classes as often as we can. Our love, passion, and dedication set us apart. We build relationships with each client and provide our clients with quality, healthy hair.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes! We are in a great location. We are surrounded by a lot of younger working families that love supporting small businesses. Our area is very modern but has a small-town feel. We are in the middle of Alliance Town Center and old-time Keller!
