Today we’d like to introduce you to Kassy Freeman of KD MAKEUP.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kassy Freeman. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Well, I have always wanted to be apart of the beauty industry. Growing up, I thought I wanted to be a hairstylist and then in high school, the makeup industry started to explode. Especially through YouTube! The beauty blender came out and that was a total game-changer. Makeup became really intriguing to me. I could make my eyes look bigger, lips plumper, and higher more defined cheeks! You could do all these things while still being so creative. So I was really inspired and started really small just by doing my friends and practicing on myself. After I graduated high school and found that college wasn’t the path God planned for me, I attended Makeup designery (MUD) in Burbank California! I loved my time there and I learned so much about the industry more in-depth.
Furthering my education in makeup at MUD really gave me more confidence in my work! I am now in the wedding industry with my older sister. I do makeup, she does hair. We are the perfect duo and we also have grown to work really well together. My parents have opened my eyes to all the possibilities on how to grow my brand and business to the fullest potential. I’m so thankful for their support as entrepreneurs themselves. My older sister Kyla has been a huge drive for me to continue in the wedding industry even when I feel like I am losing my creativity, Kyla keeps me driven to find new inspiration. My other older sister Kandyce is one of my best friends and she has always led me to never give up on my dreams to be an artist and to be an inspiration to others. I love you guys! I also wanted to expand my value in a beautiful place by getting a license to do eyelash extensions. I have enjoyed that and I feel it’s a perfect add on to my other blessings. Honestly, my why to it all is to help and inspire women. I make sure one always gives value back to my clients and to help them feel beautiful. Women should feel confident, powerful, and creative. I want to help give that back to every person I come on to contact with!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This road hasn’t been the smoothest at all. Many times and still catch myself wondering if this is the right direction… am I doing the right thing, what could I do more or different. but at the end of the day, I know God has blessed me with talents and the mind to invest in other women. I just have to keep on taking a step.
Please tell us about your work.
When a client sits in my chair, obviously I want to do my best to embody what she envisioned for her perfect day or night out. But I just focus on teaching them through the process of my makeup application to help them when they are putting on their day to day makeup to feel confident in their everyday face. Because I won’t always be there I want to give back that value. I hear a lot of women say. “I have no idea what I am doing when putting on my makeup!” And I never like to hear that m so for every client I try give them some value back and to teach them tricks throughout the makeup application.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I just trust the Lord. But if I were to want to be somewhere in five to ten years… it isn’t anything specific but I would want to have an outreach to as many people as possible and to grow my business in either my methods or maybe a product. I always just want to grow more in this industry completely. I have become really into fashion and completing the whole package of a look. I wanted to just be a well rounded as possible and never say no to opportunities or people. Just be a service to this industry. I would love to expand my lash business as well and my channel on YouTube. I want to be used to how God wants me to and I know I was blessed by certain things and mindset for a reason. It’s about being faithful and seeing it through.
