Meet Kristen Camareno of Fort Worth Bike Sharing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Camareno.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started working as property manager at the Fort Worth Transportation Authority right out of college. Over the seven years I worked there, my role shifted and I began taking on some special projects for the organization. The last big task I was assigned was to find “some sort of bike connection or amenity” for our commuters. Fast forward seven years and Fort Worth Bike Sharing has been on the ground about four and a half years.

Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part, it has been a smooth process. It took a few tries to get the grant funding for the system equipment, and a little convincing to get everyone to agree that bike sharing could be successful in Fort Worth, but overall, it’s been a great ride.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Fort Worth Bike Sharing story. Tell us more about the business.
Fort Worth Bike Sharing is a 501c3 non-profit that manages and maintains a bike sharing system for Fort Worth. We are a small but mighty group and I’m proud to be a part of an organization that makes a difference in our community every single day.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Aside from being more prevalent and widely used as transportation, we’ll see a huge shift toward smart, stationless bikes and e-bikes over the next several years.
