Today we’d like to introduce you to Hillary and Mark Hutchins.
Rehoboth Ranch was originally started by Mark’s dad Robert Hutchins with his 12 Children and after being in McKinney Farmers Market and Dallas and Coppell Farmers Markets for years, kids got married and started their own families and Robert decided to retire. Mark and Hillary took over the ranch operations and eventually the business entirely. We have three kiddos aged 1-5 and are passionate about carrying on a family legacy and building one of our own with our children. That’s a pretty short version but brings us to where we are today.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t feel like any part of ranching is ever a smooth road. There’s been droughts, flooding, a tornado came through and took out most of our barns and the roof off the house in 2015. We saw our community rally like you would not believe around us after the tornado. hundreds of people showed up the next day and for the weeks following to help with clean up and rebuilding.
People donated funds to rebuild and came and replaced our car windows, tarped our roofs, dried out our books, took our inventory to neighbor’s commercial freezers and cleared debris. Customers showed up at our Markets and the Ranch helping and encouraging. It was a surreal time for all of us. Who knew a tornado would be so devastating and encouraging at the same time.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Rehoboth Ranch – what should we know?
We provide all grass-fed and finished Beef and Lamb, Pasture Raised Pork, Chickens, Turkeys, and Eggs. All of our products are GMO-free and raised humanely without hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, herbicides. We are known for our top quality products and we don’t cut corners.
We know its longer, harder and more expensive to raise meat and eggs to be this clean but that’s our passion and we believe that it is also our responsibility to steward the land and animals in a way that honors their Creator and His creation. We are transparent in our practices. Unlike some other ranchers, we let you know exactly where your food comes from. Our customers are the most well educated and confident eaters in Texas. Know your farmer and you know your food, we want to be known by our customers and we want them to know their food.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being a trustworthy honest producer who is willing to go the extra mile or ten to do the right thing.
