Today we’d like to introduce you to Meg Alvarez.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Meg. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My husband bought me my first camera after I had basically talked about wanting a camera every day for MONTHS. He surprised me with it, and ’till this day I seriously cannot thank him enough for being such a thoughtful human being and getting me that gift. I was constantly taking photos of our daughter, and really anyone that would get in front of my camera, haha! Then I found myself getting requests to take photos for other people.
One thing led to another, and I started to pursue a business out of it – even though it hardly feels like a business because I LOVE what I do. I’ve been taking photos for about three years now. Photography changed not only my life but my perspective of life. I have this huge craving to give people images that will make their hearts just burst and capture all of the feelings in that moment. A photo is worth a lifetime and I try to give that with every session.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most definitely not. A lot of my struggles have to do with moving from different cities, and still being a mom and wife every day. However, with these struggles, I find that I give myself a lot of grace whenever I have my sessions. Photography is a huge creative outlet where I find reward and thankfulness, so, it makes every single struggle worth it in the long run.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
My photography is centered around lifestyle – just you in a more natural setting. I take photos for families, couples, portraits, weddings, etc. When you shoot with me, you’re going to find yourself laughing at my extremely goofy sense of humor, or the silly things I’ll have you do. I like to get my clients to feel natural with me and truly build a friendship by the end of the session.
It’s all about capturing those raw, real moments of life. At first, most people tend to be really nervous in front of the camera. By the end, my clients feel comfortable. I like them to leave with their hearts full and memories of a fun shoot with me. When it comes to my family sessions, I personally know how stressful it can be getting little ones in front of the camera so my goal is to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone. It’s all about the experience. You want beautiful photos to go along with a beautiful experience behind the scenes.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think the most important characteristic I can have regarding my business is that I simply love what I do. I love meeting new people, getting to see families grow, documenting special memories, and just making others feel beautiful and special in front of my camera. It’s the greatest honor getting to capture such special moments for my clients.
