Conversations with the Inspiring Cindy Nixon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Nixon.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Cindy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Around March of 2018, I started my Instagram decor page. I simply had a passion for decorating my home and I wanted to share it on Instagram. I had no idea what I was really doing other than taking photos of my home and then sharing them on Instagram. Around May of 2018, I decided I wanted to learn the ins and outs of Instagram. I signed up for an Instagram course and it was the best decision I ever made. I not only learned so much about Instagram, but I made so many amazing connections with people I now call friends. I never imagined that by sharing my passion for decorating on a platform like Instagram, that I would make so many supportive friends and become an influencer.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Instagram makes changes to the platform often and sometimes those changes can be overwhelming. I have even shed some tears along the way. There were several times that I wanted to throw in the towel. Sometimes, it feels like a lot of hard work with no return. But then I pick myself up and continue to fight through the struggles.

My advice to women starting their Instagram journey is to first pick your niche and build a cohesive feed. Then, remember always stay true to yourself and try to not get caught up in the comparison game. Be authentic and open. Share not only the triumphs in your life but also the struggles. By doing so, people will trust you and will connect with you. Be supportive of others and help build up the community. You will be surprised by the friendships you will make along the way.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I work full time as a registered nurse but in my spare time, I am an influencer on Instagram. I share my passion for decorating. My style is a neutral cottage farmhouse with some vintage touches.

I am most proud of putting myself out there and getting out of my comfort zone. I am shy by nature, but on Instagram, I have opened up my home and my personal life to total strangers. This has left me open for criticism which I have received at times. On the other hand, by being vulnerable and honest, I have made some amazing connections and some of those total strangers have become dear friends.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
The most important thing to know about starting your Instagram journey is to tell your story and always stay genuine. It is also important to interact with your followers. There is so much to gain on Instagram if you just stay true to who you are and connect with people.
