Meet Tiffany Baker of Boss Babe Dog Training

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Baker.

Tiffany, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up I have always had a heart for the animals. When I was a kid my dream job was to be a veterinarian, and as I grew up I immersed myself in the animal rescue community. I volunteered regularly with rescue organizations, animal shelters, fostered animals. Fostering dogs is what opened the door to dog training. I wanted to help these homeless dogs have the best possible chance at getting adopted, so I would teach them basic manners to help with that.

My passion for dog training just grew from there. I worked as a certified Pet Trainer at Petsmart in 2013 and expanded my knowledge on dog behavior through books, several online seminars, and extensive hands-on experience in the animal rescue community. Now I own & am the head behavior specialist with Boss Babe Dog Training, LLC.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been challenges along the way. Running a business requires a lot of time investment. There are times where I don’t get days off and it can get exhausting. There are emergency behavior cases that require late house calls. I luckily have started hiring on some amazing people to help carry some of the weight. At the end of the day, as exhausted as I may be, I get to wake up the next day and go to work at a job that I really love to do.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I own Boss Babe Dog Training, LLC. I started this business with one key mission: to help save lives. Animals are surrendered to overcrowded shelters every day and oftentimes it’s due to behavior issues. Boss Babe Dog Training, LLC was created to help people keep their dogs by providing training that is catered to teaching dogs as well as their handlers. Saving lives through training.

I am also the head trainer/behavior specialist. My approach is positive & science-based training. I work at the core of behavior issues rather than just treating the symptoms. For example, if a dog is scared of new people and barks at strangers, instead of me training the dog to stop barking(symptom), I would work on changing the dog’s perception of strangers. Instead of perceiving the strangers as scary & threatening, we counter condition the dog to anticipate an enjoyable experience with strangers. If the dog is no longer afraid of strangers, the barking is no longer the dog’s reaction. It’s really amazing to be a part of a dog’s behavior transformation.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Compassion. My compassion for the animals is what primarily drives me to do what I do. Patience and Adaptability are big too. Every dog is different and I have to alter my expectations with each dog I work with to meet their individual needs.
