Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Morlan.
Jennifer, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up in a small town in Arkansas, I started my career as a makeup artist and have always been in the beauty industry in one area or the other. I was given an opportunity to move to Dallas, Tx with my previous employer five years ago and I jumped at the opportunity. Even though I was leaving my family behind, I felt that it would give me and my son an opportunity that was not available where we lived. Especially for my son. Since we have been in Dallas, I have had the opportunity to be a Regional Manager for two different companies. I am currently the Regional Manager for We Only Wax, The Lash Bar in Richardson, Hands of Glory salon suites in Dallas, Lather and Fade in Houston, and The Hamilton & Co in San Antonio, WOW! We Only Wax is rapidly expanding all over the DFW area. We currently have 3 waxing studios and plan on 3 more by January 2020. The owners of these salons, Josh and Sophi Marass are amazing to work for. They value their associates and the clients over anything else. We together feel that if we take care of our people, our people will take care of the business. We take great pride in not having a corporate mentality by taking our time with the clients to ensure their satisfaction and happiness before they leave the building. We strive to ensure each client gets the best experience with us. From building a rapport with each person when they enter our salons to an amazing service. We take pride in our rave reviews our clients leave as well. It has been an exciting adventure building and watching these businesses grow! Hard work, dedication and integrity pays off!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My journey has been full of ups and downs. I have managed a multi-million dollar corporate company were producing high numbers was the most important part of the job. I learned early on that I was only as good as my team. I have strived to build a really solid, hardworking, dedicated team in each role I have been in.
My advice to young women would be this- Yes, you are going to fail at something, but that’s okay. Failing is part of learning. It is very important that we women build each other up. Honesty and integrity will be your best friend. Always remain coachable! We can all learn something from someone else. It doesn’t matter how long you have been in a job or how old you are. If you stop learning, you stop growing and that does not make for a very good leader. Also, be a good listener and remain humble! Find a group of strong like-minded women who support and challenge you to be better every day. Finally, share what you have learned with other women! Create that strong network with each other.
Please tell us about Wow! We Only Wax.
I will specifically speak about WOW! We Only Wax because it is growing so rapidly. What sets us apart from other waxing salons is that we take our time! We are NOT speed waxing. We build a relationship with our guests. We take the time to educate them on their skin and the service. Home care is important and each person leaves with instructions on how to take care of themselves. I am most proud of the fact that we truly care about each person that walks in the door and their satisfaction when they leave.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I am constantly reading self-help books for personal growth and development. I believe we are all responsible for our own development. I strive to be better tomorrow than I am today.
