Today we’d like to introduce you to Melvin and Kimberly Ellis.
Melvin and Kimberly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
SoulSense Ministries was founded in order to create a space where people can learn and grow in their knowledge of God as well as practically apply scripture to their everyday life. The goal of our platform is to have a wealth of resources to help you grow in your spiritual walk! We saw the need for people to see that the Bible is living and active and can be applied to your “everyday” life.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I wouldn’t say that it has been a rough road but we definitely have had a learning curve. Our signature platform is our podcast. We do all of the audio, editing, and marketing ourselves and at this point, nothing is outsourced. Neither one of us are formally trained in these areas, so we have spent a huge amount of time educating ourselves. Overall though, it’s been a great experience. It’s great doing this together as a married couple and discussing the most important thing to us which is our Christian walk.
Please tell us more about your work. What should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We have an online ministry, SoulSense Ministries, which houses a podcast, youtube channel, blog, and downloadable devotionals and study guides. We discuss topics that the everyday person deals with from marriage & parenting to career, mental illness, & politics and filter it through the lens of biblical scriptures. We have vulnerable and real conversations and do not portray ourselves as having it all together. We are just two imperfect people trying to follow the example of a perfect being…Christ!
What we are MOST proud of is that we share this passion together and it is something that we have worked extremely hard at. We both bring to the table our own unique talents and somehow it just works. I believe that’s what sets us apart…we are ALWAYS going to be us. We keep it all the way real and though we LOVE God, we also know that we are flawed individuals so our space is a safe place for ALL.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for us is impacting and inspiring the next person. Planting a seed in someone else will eventually grow into a vast forest. So if we have impacted one person (which I know we have), we’ve succeeded!
