Today we’d like to introduce you to Irene Cross.
Irene, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started baking cakes out of my house when my sons were younger and my daughter who’s special needs used to spend so much time between hospitals and ambulances.
One day, I baked a couple of cakes and my niece told me they were so good I should sell them and automatically I said, no way! I don’t even know how to decorate a cake! But just a couple of days later, I woke up thinking can do it!! I jumped out of the bed and ran to the store to buy a pan, magazines to learn, styrofoam boxes, I made in the computer my own business cards and the next day literally, I was giving samples with my cards!
Just like that!
As my kids grew up and my daughter got very stable, I came to Old Town Lewisville to look for a quinceañera dress for my daughter with my mom and we noticed they had everything for weddings here but cakes. That was in January 2011 and by February, I was opening my cute little cake shop.
Two years later, I moved across the street to a bigger space, almost four years ago, I met my actual husband and together we have grown the bakery to the point that this year, we were able to buy the space I was renting for over 6 years.
We specialize in wedding cakes and custom design cakes for any occasion, cupcakes, cake balls and cookies.
Everything we do is completely made from scratch with a unique homemade flavor.
Has it been a smooth road?
It is not been easy at all! There were many moments that I thought I should throw the towel! Especially when you can’t afford employees when I had no time to sleep and I ended up hospitalized with extreme fatigue and dehydration due to the extreme amount of hours I was putting in the bakery and had no time to sleep or eat.
Having not enough business was hard as well, you know you have to pay rent, bills, ingredients, supplies and whatever salaries you can afford but when you know your product, you have faith and believe in yourself you just can’t quit!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Irene’s Bakery – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.

Dallas has a mix of cultures that makes it very interesting, my customers come from all types of cultures and I totally love to learn how they all celebrate in different ways.
