Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Pereyda.
Nathan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
At a very young age, I came to realize the impact that beautiful flowers could have on a person’s outlook with any sort of circumstance. The first experience that comes to mind involved my aunt. She unexpectedly was admitted into the hospital for a serious health condition. That lead me & my family to rush to her side to provide comfort & support. And we thought that maybe some pretty flowers would help brighten her spirit. When we arrived in her room with a flower arrangement in tote, we found her sleeping. She definitely needed her rest, so we didn’t wake her. But we left a card next to the arrangement. Well, as we had hoped it did indeed brighten her spirit. And she firmly believes that was the beginning of her strength to recover. To this day, she still brings up how special it made her feel to wake up to these beautiful flowers. And the impact it made on her, made an impact on me. From that point on, I strived to hopefully make that impact with other loved ones, not just with hardships, but also with celebrations.
Fast forward to 2018, my Dad unexpectedly passed in January. Being that this was the first true lose my family and I had ever suffered, we wanted to take his services in our own hands. We set out to create one of a kind floral arrangements to pay tribute to this amazing man, I was privileged to call Dad. Although his service was extremely difficult, I was so proud of his beautiful service, I hoped he would be proud of these amazing florals we created to honor him, After this, I began to feel even more inspired to use florals to express my love and compassion for others.
Sadly, not long after the loss of my Father, in March of 2018, my beloved Grandmother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Shortly after the diagnosis, we came to the realization that we were going to lose her sooner than we hoped. It became important to me that I cherish this precious time I had left with her. And I must say, I have so much admiration for the strength my Grandmother had battling this horrible disease. For my part, I wanted to make certain that she always had beautiful flowers in order to hopefully brighten her spirit during this most difficult time. As expected, she lost her battle later that year & we set out on a mission to make her service as special & beautiful as possible. We created stunning floral pieces with a variety of roses. Her name was Rose, and her name was well suited to her because she was so lovely… a wonderful flower of love.
My passion only deepens after these horrific losses & I wanted to expand that passion by venturing into the floral industry with this one of a kind floral concept where roses were the centerpiece flower.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When I decided that I wanted to create custom acrylic flower boxes, I was excited about the idea but I was unsure of exactly how I was going to bring it to life. After several months of working with multiple vendors reviewing different samples, I was able to acquire a great company to create our boxes. After creating the custom sizes and making sure the logo and placement was perfect, the waiting game began. Having them produced overseas presented many challenges. I was set to launch this past Valentine’s Day but due to the customs shut down we faced at the beginning of the year I, unfortunately, did not receive the boxes until after Valentine’s Day.
Along with manufacturing issues, I also struggled with how to market this unique one of a kind piece. I did not have the financial means to hire a marketing representative. Therefore, I had to be creative on how I could market these on my own. I wanted to take advantage of the reach that social media has, but my experience with was very limited. Its been a learning process to navigate the best direction to get the exposure I hoped for, but it’s a continuous learning process.
Please tell us about Roze Of Dallas.
When I came up with the idea of starting a floral business, I wanted it to be different in all fascists. I didn’t want to use the typical flower vases that I had seen growing up. I also wanted something that could be potentially kept as a keepsake that someone could use once their roses had withered. The box has the potential to be used for visible storage, it also can function as a makeup brush holder. I’ve had customers send me photos of reusing the boxes for multiple purposes including purse storage, toiletries, and even printed photos and that’s exactly what I envisioned. My boxes are also easy to travel with unlike the traditional flower vases that are hard to travel with.
We offer a black glove delivery service for the flat rate of $10. This consists of a guy dressed in formal wear, dress shoes a little more polished than the typical flower delivery guy in order to create the ultimate floral experience. I feel like it just adds a special ending to a beautiful moment. I wanted to create a great experience for our customers from start to finish, which exceeded the traditional floral company.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Absolutely nothing. I feel like every obstacle I was faced taught me a lesson as cliche as that may sound. With these issues, I was able to fully understand how I wanted my business to grow and develop.
