Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Tranchin.
Molly, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I never planned on making a living as an “influencer”! But when I went vegan five years ago, I was mostly daunted by what I was going to wear. So, I started an Instagram account and a blog, really to just keep track of the vegan, cruelty-free, eco-friendly, and non-toxic things I would find. I was surprised when people actually started following my account. Years later, aside from my family, this job is my life’s passion— helping people live and shop more conscientiously and kindly.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No way! Being an “online person” is full of challenges and unhealthy elements, like comparison and rejection and facing scrutiny from complete strangers. My advice for others starting out in this field is to HAVE OTHER PASSIONS and things that matter more to you than what you’re doing online. Otherwise, you run the risk of caring way too much about this online persona you’ve created and can become self-conscious and narcissistic… and can lose sight of the fact that online is NOT reality.
What should we know about FashionVeggie? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My blog and Instagram is focused on vegan and cruelty-free fashion, parenting, beauty, travel, and general lifestyle. I think what sets me apart from many of the other online influencers, however fabulous they may be, is that I have a mission larger than myself which is driving my posts and partnerships. It forces me to be very discerning and focused on my content, which I’m proud of. I’m really proud to only partner with and support brands and products and ideas that I 100% believe in, and that I feel will be helpful to you.
It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
Hmmmm. To be honest— no. I am so slammed with working and raising my 17 months old and being pregnant again and prioritizing my husband whenever he isn’t working, that I sadly haven’t read a book or listened to a podcast in a very long time. I should try and change that!
