Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Campbell.
Ryan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
So originally, I started as a wedding DJ proximity six years ago, I felt bored and like was stuck in the same routine like a glorified MCee and I was desperate for a new challenge so I quit everything and started pushing bars and night clubs and at first, I literally did two shows a week for free just to get my name out, I would drive for uber eats just to have the money for gear and to get to my shows finally i looked at the owner of Hideaway on Henderson and said “let me play tonight for free, if you like me keep me.” Since that day, I’m now the resident DJ of Hideaway on Henderson playing every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and it’s just astonishing how much I have grown and some of the amazing DJs I’ve gotten to work with although I’m still looking for extra shows from time to time you can catch me playing all around Dallas on a Wednesday or Sunday.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Well, it hasn’t been easy taking a hit from quitting my job and some very poor decisions with relationships and having the wrong influence around me, I went from living with family to living in my car for months. I had a gym membership just so I could shower. I’m blessed for the people who have done nothing but help me rise back up and a loving grandmother who does everything she can including the nonstop prayers. I’m truly blessed to be where I am now and excited to see the future.
Tell us more about your work.
Well, I’m a DJ so I get paid to play music but I specialize at engaging my crowd and manipulating music so all ages can enjoy the night such as jumping genres to make sure I can keep everyone moving.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Well, first off, I have to thank my grandmother for raising me and constantly pushing me.
My mentor Jason Umali for not only teaching me so much but also making think and work for it on my own as he would say “I’m teaching you how to cook. I’m not gonna feed you too.”
And most importantly, my fan base my fans have not only pushed me and even got me guest slots be for but they have also become my friends and my family.
