Meet Princess Nelson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Princess Nelson.

Princess, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started singing at a young age. Stumbled across a CD player and a MaryMary demo cd at my granddaddy house. I remember walking around with it everywhere I went and I don’t think anyone noticed. I had to have been eight or nine years old. There was a song called “Lord, I Thank You” that stuck with me and I sang it all the time. The moment I knew it was something I loved was when my lil sister and I was at the boys and girls club and people started to surround us singing the song. That was the spark.

Fast forward to 2015, I released my first solo single and visual “Pain Deep” which is on my EP “Princess No Fairytales”. It was written about a personal situation that I still deal with till this day. My desire to create my own sound I forever yearn to do more. I reconnected with my now producer and manager Yung Bala after 10 years in 2016 because he is, of course, great at what he do and I knew he could bring my vision to life. Which brings to the world my current single “You”.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh no. Not smooth at all. My sound before was selling Pain. Hints my last single was called “Pain Deep” and EP title “Princess No Fairytale.”

I felt like I lived a Disney Princess life. I never had it easy and I believe I had to struggle to understand the seriousness. My struggle is being a partner, a mother, working a 9-5 to make ends meet and following my dreams. That’s an everyday challenge but I do it because I see the bigger picture. My hard work will encourage the next person and my faith will allow me to lead others in the right direction and I will be living my dream.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
My brand is me “Princess” I specialize in creating good soulful music. What sets me apart is that I do not desire to be like others. I have never been a cover singer type of person it was always a struggle singing other people’s song. I was always better at creating my own and putting my own touch on music. I am most proud of the fact that I have not given up. At my age, it is easy to give up and settle for the simplicity of everyday life. The people I surrounded myself with were used to everyday living but I wanted more and I want more. I desire to do what my heart desire and that’s to make good music. The type of music that move people’s heart and lifestyle.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite personal memory from childhood is being at my family reunions. My family has an annual reunion every year and I miss the times my granddad was alive back in the ’90s.

My favorite childhood memory regarding my talent. I won every homecoming in school from middle school to high-school. I only lost two years which was 8th and 11th grade. My senior year in high school at Lancaster was the best. I was Homecoming Queen, Most Talented in the yearbook, I sang the National Anthem at the Home Coming Parade and Pep Rally and I sang the solo song at my high school graduation. What tops off my senior year is that I got the opportunity to sing for Kirk Franklin on his song “Jesus” on “The Fight of My Life” Album. It was my first time ever stepping foot in a studio. As a teenager that played a major part in my life. I HAD A GREAT CHILDHOOD! The struggle was real but the blessings were there.
